Visited today for lunch. Sunday roast was delicious and my husband enjoyed his steak pie. The staff, all young ladies were attentive and friendly. The table next to us were complaining about something and they did their utmost to appease them, when the customer was very rude. Very professional and would go back again.

The food was excellent. Virtually everything else was awful. I'll mention just a couple:
1. Apparently there is a policy of not allowing bookings on the day; we would just have to call in and try our luck. So one risks getting a taxi, and then having to find an alternative. As it happened there were very few customers, as they would have known.
2. Equally bizarre is the practice of opening bottles of wine in advance (apparently to save time). How would a customer know how long it had been open? But it would seem that the customer comes second to staff convenience.

Fabulous location. Very busy Wednesday lunch. Appeared to be only two staff on front of house covering bar and tables.. Staff polite and worked really hard. My fish and chips was ok if a little over cooked and they ran out of tarter sauce. My partner's steak and mushroom pie looked delicious and was large he really enjoyed it but it really could have done with a side jug of gravy. Anyone with mobility problems should enter from the front as there are steps leading down from the car park to avoid walking all the way round. Some of the chairs very rickety and uncomfortable. We should have asked for a better table as chairs and location of our table was not good for our disabilities. Will do next time and am sure staff will be sympathetic.

Context we have been coming here for over 20 yrs and never had a bad meal. It's been great. Visited Saturday at 550pm on a booked table for 8. Told we had to get our own drinks. So after 40 minutes we had our drinks but couldn't order food as we were queued at the bar. We then had to queue again for the table water and the wine. Food finally ordered after 1 hour!! Then told now we had ordered food all further drinks could be ordered from the table? Wrong food arrived for two of us despite asking what the stroganoff came with chops were delivered. We had to set our own places with cutlery just left on a tray for us? Food was acceptable despite us eating separate. The build up of glasses was also a problem. Not sure what is going on loads of empty tables around the pub so not busy. We couldn't be bothered with deserts £300 bill knocked off the second bottle of wine for the inconveniences. I would rather have paid the full £300 and a £30 tip and got decent service. It could have just been a bad night but no explanation was given

It's always a pleasure to pause here for a drink and a meal. Our faithful dog came with us and was treated to a sausage plus many dog biscuits and a lot of attention from our genial host and other guests. We enjoyed our meal immensely and shall be returning.

This is a great place. Really cozy, comforting feel with friendly helpful staff. The food was 10/10. Good portions but without scrimping on quality. We visited the area for 3 night and ate here two of those night and would have returned if we were staying longer.

Bit disappointing, been here a few times before and been impressed in the past. Had a long wait to order food, despite not being that busy...even longer wait for starters to be cleared and main course arriving. Food was ok, nothing special. Also no heating on, it was freezing, we were sat next to a cold radiator with temperatures outside of -3°. There was an open fire in the other room but that did not heat up the whole pub.
