I'm a teddy that adores fish cakes; so I couldn't wait to tuck into the fish cake with poached egg and hollandaise sauce, accompanied with new potatoes and asparagus. The wonderfully creamy soft mashed potato coated in breadcrumbs acted like a fluffy sleeping bag to the the fish ( rather too little fish for my liking) but potato was so yummy that I will forgive them. The hollandaise sauce was simple without any sickly feeling it can sometimes have. It was a shame that the asparagus had the woody bit left on and overall what's showing signs of wilting.
A busy staff is friendly and make sure that the dogs have water.
A very nice pub, particularly if you are bringing the dog, or a teddy bear!
Alright very welcome in the drinking area they are not in the dining area. Which is just as well I guess. I assume teddy bears are allowed in the dining area because we were with dog we eating this drinking area.
Great place for the family after a long drive.
We had some tasty ale, the 'sticky platter' and a pizza to share, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed their lesser offerings of tomato pasta and fries.
Picture doesn't really do it justice.
In passing Colney Fox is always warm and welcoming, and the a Sunday lunch was just perfect and hot and very tasty, loved the fact you can have as much gravy as you like, we had the triple roast no complaints at all.
We visited on a Tuesday night about 630 and it was quiet with 3 staff on so no excuse for poor service.
Would visit again to give it another chance to demonstrate good customer service but that's only because both of us really rated the food
I haven't been for many years to the Fox, but was visiting with my Mum and we stopped by for a bite to eat. I had the Chicken pie. It was good. Friendly staff who helped us through our order as my mother had some dietary requirements. We'll certainly visit again.
There were issues with the starters where one of the key ingredients was missing from three of the same dish, and someone with an allergy was only told after ordering that they couldn’t have the sauce so ended up with a dry dish without one of the ingredients (pub error) or the sauce. They had to mix up their own sauce with the condiments. Had they been told at the time of ordering (and they did ask), they could have chosen something else. Service was also quite slow with the starters.
With the mains, another ingredient was missing for one person, and service was slow. Again, the person with the allergy was served a dry dish due to the sauce not being suitable. However, did say the rest of the dish was nice. The staff recognised our experience hadn’t been great so they did take some items off the bill without being asked which was much appreciated. Other members of the party really enjoyed the food and the drinks were tasty. The steak was good as well as the chicken from the festive menu. The desserts were also good. So overall a mixed experience.
