I have nothing but praise for the service, food, and drink offered here. We were a large party of Americans and the staff - especially Stuart - were kind, attentive and very gracious. I enjoyed the duck pie pictured here; it was exceptional.

The gentleman that seated and served us also gave us a little history insight on the town. Very cool!!!! Great food and drinks, too. Thank you.

We went to Old Buttermarket on a whim as we needed lunch. It was a fantastic idea. We ordered the duck leg and ale pie (Right pie) and wild boar and chorizo pie (left pie) as well as a pint of Pepsi max and pineapple juice. It all came to below £20 per person.
The bar staff were lovely. I asked about the pies and they recommended the duck pie and the two were professional and quick.
The food was incredible. I had the Boar and Chorizo pie and the crust and the gravy in the pie was amazing. The Duck and ale pie was something else though. The duck was cooked so well and the gravy inside was fantastic.

10/10 would recommend.

Right by the Canterbury cathedral gates. Wide range of traditional English pub dishes. We had beautifully cooked fish and chips 😋
Lovely interior and very friendly staff.

OK but used to be twice as good.

I visited this place twice in the past two weeks, on really quiet days.
Unfortunately is not the same as it used to be a couple of years ago.

Tables sticky, baristas that can't be bothered and an atmosphere of just being unwelcomed.

30 minutes to get a fish and chip cooked in the oldest oil ever seen, not even talking about what I thino they are mushrooms?

I could understand the pricing if the food was good, but it isn't and not even worth the wait.

3 Stars only for the clean toilets, otherwise would've been two.

Go nextdoor, or just few steps, you might pay less and eat better.

Very popular place - book in advance! Best pie I ever had (Christmas) and drinks were good. Others had Christmas dinner and said it was superb. Took 45 min but it was worth it and staff so warm and welcoming.

This was out first time here. The place was full when we entered for a drink or two. This place is popular among local so I would advise you to book in advance which we should have done it. But me made an impromptu plan to go here. Server were friendly and cooperative since we were walk in and showed us a table.

Overall a nice experience, the place was buzzing, exotic mulled wine smell as you enter and reasonable drink prices. Its right opposite cathedral so the location is easy too.

Nice pub with good food, at iconic location in Canterbury. According the text on the walls the Buttermarket was connected via tunnels to Cathedral (escape route). The pies are great and served with vegetables, and mash.
