My wife and I booked a table for 2 for Sunday lunch. We liked the traditional English pub ambience and thought the food was very good; plentiful and well cooked. However, we were disappointed to see that a 10% 'tip' had been automatically added to our bill. If an establishment wants to apply a service charge / 'tip' to the bill, it should make it clear on its website and menu that this will be the case, not just add it without warning! In any event, a 'tip' should be at the discretion of the diner to reward food / service over and above the norm, not levied automatically! Although the staff took this extra charge off the bill when I queried it, was a shame I had to confront them about it!

Stopped off for lunch. I had sea bass fillet with mixed vegetables + pint of Guinness, My wife had fish and chips + glass of red wine both meals excellent. Very efficient nice lady behind bar (a proper traditional pub) we will definitely stop off again when in area *****

I've been to this place on 29/08/22 and emailed the pub with a feedback but no reply whatsoever so I'm putting this review up, it may reach someone and it will be good to alert other people.

The pub looks lovely and staff very friendly. I had a BBQ burger (outside area) and a pint and here's the issue:

The bread was COLD.

That absolutely ruined my experience (and I do love a burger). What made it worse if the fact that the meat itself was very nice, cooked right and juicy, the meat was perfect but the bread ruined it. And i mean cold as in straight from a very cold fridge. Not even room temperature. If the meat wasn't nice it would be like a van burger but not. So please consider this feedback for your next BBQ.
Also charging £1 extra for cheese it could come with at least 2 slices of cheese.

I didn't try anything from the menu.
Thank you.

Looking for somewhere to eat late post return from goodwood revival.
Rang at 19.30 and advised table would be available at 30.30 which it was.
We were expected and post ordering drink shown promptly to seat in small heavily beamed low ceiling eating part.
Good selection of food and specials.
Food good portions and home made in pub grub style.
Service friendly..Good beer selection.
Only slight quibble going to toilet otherwise of pub was like visiting crufts..but saying that dogs were well behaved.
Old pub..meet our needs..thank you

Nice food and decent beer in a lovely pub in a nice location. However, poorly staffed and not very welcoming. Almost felt our group was an inconvenience and shouldn't be there. Also expensive and charged 10% service on order, even though ordered at bar and took the beer as usual. Avoid unless improved service.

Went to the punchbowl christmas eve had a great meal, staff very good, great atmosphere, and great value for money, my only one moan is someone had a dog that kept howling like a wolf, apart from that love the place, will be back.
