We stayed here for one night on our Devon holidays. The room was simple and clean with everything what you need for a short stay. We had a good night sleep and had amazing full fried Devon breakfast in the morning made of local fresh produce. The bar/restaurant area was full of charm and character that makes your eyes wonder in search of next peculiar thing in decor. The only little criticism is a water pressure in the shower and a little inconvenience having a separate bathroom next door and not in the room. But overall it is a great value for money and I would definitely recommend this Inn if you are on a tight budget.

Some of the worst food i had in a while. Came down from Dartmoor hills and had to catch a train in an hour. I ordered a pie and a pint that came out to £20. Pie has been in a fridge for a while because it had a fridge taste and dry pieces of chicken. And probably just warmed up in a microwave. Nice thick chips but dry as sand on the inside. Peas were good. And ale i got was old and a little lower than room temperature. Not sure where 4stars came from

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone at the Sportsman Inn for their kindness to my In Laws when they stayed recently. It was a sad time as they were attending a family funeral. Thank you for looking after them as they are quite a frail couple and for taking them to the Station on their last day. My mother in law raves about her evening Meal and breakfast size. My in laws, Mr & Mrs Mertens thank you for your hospitality and would highly recommend you to anyone looking for accommodation in the local area

Nice little cafe
Had fish finger sandwich, nice chunky fish fingers, Mr had smoked mackerel salad, all good but let down by the cakes, Victoria sponge cake was dry with not much butter icing. Wifes coffee walnut cake didn't taste very much like coffee.
Would go back though as service and savory food was very good

Where to start I booked here for one night and oh my gosh what a dirty filthy old place to stay. I have to say one of the worst dirtiest places I have ever stayed. Booked in very friendly lady. Got to my room and there was a sign on the door saying. Has been deep cleaned. Well I was busting for a wee went to use the toilet the toilet seat was broken with bits of wee stained plastic sticking out the toilet had old dried wee and Pooh on it the sink was filthy previous occupants tooth past left in sink. Tooth paste splatter all over the mirror in bathroom and bedroom mirror. Mould on the shower head that bad I never used it. The shower head had not been cleaned for a very long time. The bath had cracks in it and there was a hole on the ceiling the drinks tray and kettle had not been cleaned they had tea and coffee drips all over them the carpet was not hoovered. I went to turn the tv on and had to pull the tv out as the Ariel was not in it. The back of the tv shelf and tv were thick with dust. Not been cleaned for at least a year !! The windows were filthy. And I had to open the windows as the room smelt musty. The only thing that was cleaned was the bed and sheets. Believe me I checked No way was I sleeping in filth. I went straight down to complain. The lady couldn’t apologise enough she sent head of house keeping to re clean my room. She came and found me after and could not apologise enough. To be honest I would of left and found somewhere else but there was no where else. I went back to my room the tv was still filthy and the carpet. But the bathroom had had a good clean. I never bothered using the bathroom my entire stay The place needs modernising It cost me 110 pound to stay for one night and I had booked the luxury room !!!!! More like nightmare room. The pub and food itself are lovely. But I really would not ever stay there again. EVER.

Went on a Tuesday evening so it was pretty quiet but still a good selection. Be warned though, I got nachos for a starter and it would have been a good quantity for a main course instead!

Had a party Christmas dinner
Unanimously agreed the meal was terrible, Yorkshire pudding black and only fit for door stop, vegetables cold overall inedible.

One of the nicest establishments I've had the joy of visiting, asked barman what he suggested I should have for ales, suggested the salcombe ale, good choice that. Then my mate stupidly caught a splinter rubbing his gangly hands up and down the woodwork and one of the lovely bar ladies whipped out a pair of tweezers, to remove the piece of rouge wood out of his sausage like appendage 10/10 the sportsman is the best
