Excellent service, accepted dogs and even came over with a bowl of water and plenty of strokes for our Border Collie pup X Temp checked when arrived and paper bag given with cutlery and condiments. Food was so tasty, lasagne exceptional. Son wanted chicken with chips and peppercorn sauce , was no trouble to change from menu. Decor was lovely, very warm and welcoming. Would recommend and look forward to returning

Nice atmophere here I always enjoy my meal. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They have some great events for all the family and always decorate for events such as Halloween. Defiantly worth a visit. The landlady is very accommodating and always aims to please.

We are on holiday in November weather not too good, however we were driving past The shovel turned around and decided to go in for a quick drink 🍻, this was the best decision of the day the welcome even though we had our small dog 🐕 Tom with us was brilliant, the landlady gave us water and dog biscuits for Tom. We got our drinks (not water) then decided to have a meal,we both had haddock and chips with mushy peas and the meal was absolutely lovely. The pub is nice and clean with a nice atmosphere and a good landlady with a good sense of humour, I wish my local in Kent was like this one.would recommend this pub don't pass it go into it 👍 you wont regret it

We booked at table by phone.on arrival we were taken to our table and our drinks order was taken no mention of a long wait for food.We ordered starters and a main meal 3/4 hour later after some discussion with the manager the starter arrived. We made the manager aware that we needed to be elsewhere in the next hour so she said she would hurry the kitchen up. Our nain arrived a roast dinner and a cajun chicken. The roast has cauliflower cheese in the middle of it - is this a seasonal vegetable the cauliflower is but not the cheese. The meal was "beige" the only colour was a few carrots nothing green to be seen. The cajun -we asked for a a sauce with it that never arrived.
We were told that this was because they were busy....not the case they had been but another table walked out due to the slow service and another couple did not realise the wait. Yes our bill was adjusted but that is not the point. If you don't have the staff with good customer care then don't take bookings. Telling me you can't get staff since the pandemic is not an answer either, all businesses have had this problem.
We were recommended to this pub but NEVER again. Smiles and a pleasant demeanor do not make a good dining experience if the food order is not correct or timely. Why we were not told of the long wait I have no idea but we wouldn't have waited.

I don't like giving poor reviews, but unfortunately left with no choice. 2 1/2 hours to have a meal with a young child was a bit ridiculous. Quite possibly would have been longer if we had waited for a bill to be brought to the table! Whilst the people serving was nice enough they was clearly too busy to cope. Leaving us without drinks and struggling to order desserts. The food was poor from the outset, having to send back a meal as it wasn't cooked, whilst another one was on the burnt side. Mains was ok, but certainly nothing to shout about and certainly doesn't make us want to visit again. Although staff apologised for the food and slow service it seemed to be quickly cast aside and not really responded to as you might think. Very disappointed.

My first time, we had lunch, I ordered the cheese and onion pie up there with the best pies I have eaten. Everyone on the table enjoyed the food. The staff was friendly and nice. I will be going again.
