Lovely family owned pub in the beautiful village of Markington good food a d good vibes. Campsite has excellent facilities and is located close to the historic Fountains Abbey, Studley Royal deer Park and gardens, Birmingham rocks and the nearby towns of Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough.

Loved our first night's stay, great field, great friendly bar, lovely clean showers. No other pubs in walking distance but hussar more than good enough.
The 2nd night a group of approx 7 men and about the same amount of children disturbed all of us campers around them, the children screaming and shining torched in our tent till 11pm and the men all very loud till nearly 1am and unlike some other sites the hussar don't have anyone to monitor this. All the couples near us was just as annoyed but you could be lucky and not have that horrendous experience.

Lovely country pub with excellent food so definitely 5 stars for eating and drinking

However for staying on the site at the back this would only be 3 stars as facilities are basic and it is expensive for what you get. After leaving the site we went to a site with excellent facilities which charged us less than this place

A little off the beaten path, this characterful pub is well worth a visit. As we arrived before the lunchtime rush, Marie gave us a spontaneous guided tour, filling us in on the history of the place and her family’s involvement (as featured in the old photos around the dining room). The beer (Timothy Taylor Boltmaker) was great, but the real highlight was the food: five of us ordered separate dishes, but each was superb - it’s rare to see imaginative dishes produced with finesse in a pub which seems to have such a low profile. I’d heartily recommend giving it a go, before it becomes so popular it’s booked up weeks in advance.

Traditional pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, great drinks menu, however the real star is the food, a real surprise and a true hidden gem. Outstanding selection from a chef who really understands their craft.
