Been here twice now for a Sunday roast. First time was nice...nothing amazing but the second time was not nice at all. There was no flavour to anything. The cauliflower cheese, well, was lacking any cheese - tasted like flour and milk. The veg were over cooked and stripped of any natural flavours and the pork crackling wasn’t cooked through, meaning it was chewy and fatty in most parts. We (the 3 of us) doused our food in salt and pepper just to give it something.
Was really disappointed. The village is beautiful and worth coming here for that alone.
The service was friendly and quick, could not fault that. However if they want to compete with some of the best country pubs for roasts (and I’ve sampled and reviewed lots) then they need to uk their game somewhat.

If you want a good old fashioned proper pub in a proper village with proper food & proper drinks. You just found it. Jo & H run a gem.

Beautiful evening, sat outside, perfect. Lovely meal, fish and chips with mushy peas. Smoked haddock with samphire new potatoes and a poached egg.

Quirky, charming, timeless, other-worldly. And excellent simple food cooked and served perfectly.

Steak and ale pie was amazing, yum yum - I would definitely recommend the Heydon pilsner 🍺

Not as good as it could have been. The welcome was warm from some of the team but a bit odd from others. But mostly the kitchen didn't adapt well to allergy or food intolerance. The idea of substitution was not on the radar... rather dish elements were just dropped off which left dishes bland and dry.

P.S. the owner decided we were just muppets and our requests not real... Of course the owners response rather proves the point...

In a beautiful setting. Food OK. Service polite. When it comes down to allergies, they seem to cater for GF, 1 dish for vegans. They wanted to be willing with DF intolerances, but this meant they took things off the plate, i.e., garlic bread or a cream sauce, no thought to substitute.

Had Sunday lunch here. An idyllic setting, very English with a village green and even a small brass ensemble to accompany our fine lunch and quality ales! All served in an easy going manner by pleasant and helpful staff. Very good.
