The staff are great as other people have said but that does not negate the lack of secondary amenities. It doesn't have a cafe, it has a coffee bar attached to reception and doesn't offer any food. The pool doesn't have a jacquzzi which sounds like a bit of a wooly reason to mark it down but you need to consider the cheaper facility at Guildford and the same price facility in West Byfleet that offer both of these things. The car park is always a problem unless the swimming is closed then funnily it's easy to park. If you are local it maybe worth walking in since you will likely end up queuing in the car park. This is particularly annoying if you are aiming to get to a class. The problem is that there is no obvious solution to this short of renting spaces in church street car park which I doubt would float.
The gym itself is open and linked, a better layout than West Byfleet in comparison. It has a large number of cardio machines but sometimes I often you need to wait for the resistance machines, The studios can accommodate large classes.
The pool is great, the cleanest of the Nuffields I use, and the loungers are helpful for doing the hot+cold rest cycle it says on the Sauna. The steam room is pretty good, not the hottest but alright. The sauna does have a wet heat principally due to its proximity to the pool. This could do with updated paneling since many towards are splitting.
In the morning the main changing area is clea. On the occasion that I've been during the afternoon, the places has been festooned with towels. The urinal area could also be cleaner and that's noticeable from the morning onwards. A small point but the lockers here are keycoded,. In general these are better than the ones you have to put your card in and subsequently forget it. Although, as someone who has had good downstairs because the lock malfunctioned I recommend you press the key button twice to ensure it's reset to avoid embarrassment.
So it could with much better equipment, paying the same money as West Byfleet which includes a jacuzzi, proper cafe and squash court's seems inappropriate especially with it's shortcomings like the car park. If you are local and don't use the classes perhaps join Guildford at £60 and then just use the multiclub pass to go to Nuffield Leatherhead.
My knee has improved, but I must say, the Nuffield lift is the most useless pile of junk that has ever claimed to be a "lift". Day to day it hardly does any work whatsoever & yet it is always out of order. I'd say over the last 6 years, it has been out of order for at least 4 of those years. It's always the same excuse, "They are waiting for the part". The last broken down spell must have been nearly a year & it has lasted about 2 months & broken down again.
I'd have to say, if this lift was operating in John Lewis, Oxford St, or any other dept store, it would start work at 9am & have broken down by 10.30am if not earlier.
Oh well, rant over.
Received two parking fines from parking eye, was unaware you had to sign your car in as never have had this from any other Nuffield. Something this club need to fix as it's caused me some stress.
I'll be appealing regardless and hope to not pay these.
Swimming pool is excellent and particularly relaxing when it’s dark outside and they dim the lights with a blue hue. That’s my favourite time to swim. Never had a problem getting a lane so far and everyone is friendly. 20m length which is fine. Sauna and Steam Room are added bonuses and all good.
I’ve not tried any classes or the spin room yet but the gym is spacious with plenty of machines. The kit is definitely ageing but is it professional stuff and it all works wells and is properly maintained.
Changing rooms are big and always plenty of room and spare lockers (with electronic number combinations to lock). Showers are functional and slightly ugly but water is always hot which is the main thing and there’s always shampoo/shower gel there.
I’d never envisaged being a permanent gym member but having joined this one I can see myself staying. The team here are also super-helpful and friendly.
Dirty changing room floors and a number of lockers that simply don't work are minor concerns but worth mentioning to point out my experience of the general poor quality of the facilities here.
The swimming lessons (by instructor Georgie) were good and I'd recommend them if she moved them to a place with better facilities like Leatherhead Leisure Centre.
