SJD Accountancy

I have been using SJD Accountancy for the past 13 years and I found them very professional and helpful. They know the right things to do and helped me to do the right things all the time. I have also received excellent support when in need to sort out few things. They always know your history and ready to help and sort out any mistakes quickly. I normally see the single point of contact for all my accounting affairs for several years and I am very comfortable that way so that I do not have to deal with new person every time. I really trust them and definitely recommend their services to anyone.

SJD have been my company's accountants for many years and have always provided fantastic service.
Amy Henry has been my long term accountant and has always provided useful reminders and helpful advice. She's also been very tolerant of my chronic forgetfulness and inability to manage deadlines .
Never any stresses with SJD. Highly recommend!

Appalling Service. Twelve months ago I was recommending SJD to my peers unfortunately the service has gone off a cliff.
It seems no-one there could care less anymore and see customers as an inconvenience.
The service I pay for is supposed to take all the stress of accounting away from me but all I seem to do now is check constantly to see what they have done wrong.
Forget about trying to speak to someone and if you make a complaint nobody will respond.
I am sure they will give the standard reply that they are sorry to hear this and will pass my issues to the Senior Team etc.
The senior team have failed to respond to any of my concerns already. I am in the process of taking my business elsewhere.

Beware of these sharks and protect your business by avoiding at all costs. 4 months into year two of trading I have had to complete the majority of the accountancy work these were employed to do myself due to continued lack of knowledge "I need to speak to my senior" and continued failures to meet any kind of deadline whether promised by them or to meet the timeframes of HMRC.

Lots of false promises, I gave them an additional 4 months as they offered this for free due to their failings and introduced to a new "accountant", We are now at a point they have not completed my year end accounts and I am ending my service with them due the sheer lack of trust or ability. I would be very surprised if anyone here is actually qualified.

When raising the final complaint, the manager has taken the defensive attitude rather than any effort towards a resolution and when asked what work SJD have done for our business in over a year. "we have sent 20 emails" this response is almost laughable. I will give you the context of these emails.

"I have arranged to speak to my manager about your query and will get back to you next week" - sent on a tuesday

"I am still waiting for a response from my senior, I will get back to you ASAP" following friday

"Unfortunately we can't assist with the accountancy request we promised you 4 months ago as we haven't done your year end accounts" - another week later.

Excuses of your failings and continued postponements don't constitute work.

I used this company when I first started contracting, they did not factor in my student loan payments or advise me that this had to be paid separately, which landed me with a huge unexpected bill when I switched to PAYE. Their communication as per other reviews was awful- would strongly advise against using them.

I've been a customer of theirs for 5 years. This year I'm closing my company. I've had to give them an extra £540 to submit final accounts, even although the past years £144 * 12 cover a company tax return. They also want me to pay £ 180 extra for my personal tax return because I missed "their" deadline of end of September, even although the official deadline is end of January 2022. I ended up doing the tax return myself even although it was included in the past 12 months £144 * 12 (it took me 30 mins)! SJD make you do your own book keeping, as opposed to other accountants who just ask for your bank statements and then do the necessary. In the past FY (since my last return) I have paid SJD a total of £ 2,281 for which I will receive one closing company year end for a very very simple set of accounts. Overall experience - I do not see how any sound basis for them insisting I pay an additional £180 for a service that I have already paid for. My advice to any prospective clients - you will get far better service and more competitive rates with independents. I would not use SJD again or refer them.

I have been with them for many years. In the past, used to be good service but not anymore I am afraid. Where can I start. Firstly, be prepared to have different dedicated accountant every 3 months. You will then have to begin all over again and explain and re-do things with your new accountant. They are behind technology, still using old school spreadsheets [used to work in the past, not anymore]. They want you to fill the non sense spreadsheet. If you have a question, good luck to you. You can ring them all day, and email 5 times a day. You are lucky if you get an answer back, but they have shiny marketing promise of un-limited contact [sure]. Yet, when you delay a payment, they will find you in first day to ask for it. Sorry Sjd, not happy with you any longer and I would not recommend them to anyone.

SJD and my company accountant Lydia Alexander always provide a service that leaves me confident that everything will be done on time and to the highest quality. Any off the wall request I have is always very promptly dealt with with the upmost patience. I thoroughly recommend them.
