Exhibition (from 3rd - 19th March 2022)
What a fantastic exhibition! The culmination of a five year voyage of exploration and collaboration between veteran Ice Sculpture, Duncan Hamilton and his good friend, Commercial Photographer Peer Lindgreen.
The works presented in the exhibition each represent the end result (and, more often than not, a transient phase or an instant) in the ice crafting process involving both creative and technical innovation from both artist and photographer to achieve the final piece. Chatting to the artist and photographer about the techniques involved is fascinating (you might be lucky enough to meet them there) and is as rewarding as the artworks themselves. The venture begs a companion Art Book with all the background details explained, I’d buy that.
The venue is intimate and the works are perfectly presented on two floors, consisting of beautifully mounted photographic images of various sizes, backlit images and small and large video presentations. The experience is accompanied by a mesmerising, immersive soundtrack written and produced by Peer himself. There’s also a ‘live’ and tactile ice sculpture that is refreshed throughout the exhibition's duration.
Duncan takes his inspiration from many sources, some more obvious than others, but the works will inevitably strike emotional resonances and familiarities of their own in the viewer and what great fun it is to compare notes as you go round!
The works are for sale, some (the larger ones) are unique prints so you’ll need to get in quick to purchase them (and have fairly deep pockets), others are unlimited and can be ordered.
These two artists/craftsmen have produced a unique experience which will appeal to just about anyone who appreciates the pure sculptural and photographic art form and, in particular, the way they have been brought together in this unique and intimate event. Actually, whatever your interest in art, photography, sculpture (or indeed ice!) I urge you to go and see this free exhibition now!
