The flats are a good size and well-presented. The opportunities for social activities are reasonably decent. However, that is as far as the positives extend.
My mum remarked about the indifference of staff members to her specific predicaments. On the rare occassion she requested help from them, she implied that she was often disregarded simply because she was not paying for the service. I am at a loss that being helped off the floor if she fell over and couldn't right herself or when she required support calling a doctor or an ambulance came with a price tag.
Following her untimely death just over a week ago, as her body was being removed from the premises, a staff member felt it was appropriate to tell me they would begin charging us the following day! No condolences, nor kindly remarks about my mum, just money. Knowing that we were not in a position to be able to afford over two-hundred quid per week, the amount of pressure this has put on myself and my immediate family has been monumental. It has not given us any time to process our loss nor our grief. To make matters worse, as we were removing my mum's belongings from the residence, the care staff thought it was appropriate to stage a spontaneous karaoke session right outside the flat, laughing and filming themselves doing it whilst supposedly on duty. When I asked them to have a little respect and stop, they acted with indifference and continued to josh about, even though our circumstances were perfectly clear. Imagine how painful that felt.
Melin has made me feel that my mum meant nothing to them than a cash cow. Their staff complain they're not being paid to help a vulnerable individual, yet somehow find the time to film themselves singing and dancing around the communal area. I'm disgusted, and my grief and anger has been magnified by the lack of respect shown to me today. Ty George Lansbury is a disgrace.
