Dropped my car off Thursday 20/08/20 for an MOT, the car failed on its rear brakes, Chris told me the replacement cylinders would be vastly cheaper than it turned out to be. Though at the end of the day I was prepared to pay for the work no problem. These things happen. Chris contacted me the next day to say the car had passed its second MOT.
Then when my Father-in-law (a mechanic by trade) paid for the work and picked the car up on the Friday 21/08/20 he noticed that the brake pedal still had a large amount of travel on it. This was one of the things the MOT specifically failed on. So, he took the car back to Chris who said it should be fine because it passed the MOT. When questioned on it his answer was that it came in like that and it was not his fault.
Fast forward to Monday 24/08/20 when we turned up to collect the car after Chris quoted another £200 to fix the already 'fixed' brakes. After telling him I'd be dropping in to pick the car up, Chris had hurriedly handwritten a waiver for me to sign saying that by picking up the vehicle I was acknowledging the problems with the car. When my father-in-law advised against signing it Chris told me I couldn't take the car as it was in no fit state to be driven. He'd blocked my car in with his 4x4 until we threatened to involve the police.
An independent MOT garage confirmed my fears that the car was in no state to pass it's MOT, the brake was described as 'dangerous' by them. I will not be taking my car back to Chris again, and I am appalled at his blasé attitude towards the safety of my car (and so too my own personal safety).
I don't know if he took one look at me and thought he could pull the wool over my eyes because it's evident I don't know much about motoring myself; or if it was a genuine mistake; but after seeing the way he acted Monday morning by telling me the car was in no state to be driven after PASSING my MOT at the end of the week prior, and not allowing me to leave without signing a shoddily prepared waiver frantically covering his bottom at the last moment; I advise anyone reading this to consider alternatives before taking your car to Chris.
