The collection Monday 13th July 2015, Mr Jeremy arrived on a truck inadequate for transporting sport cars such as my MGF trophy as this type of car is very low.
Few pieces of wood under the tyres the car was on the truck. I did ask Mr Jeremy to give me an estimate for the MOT and full service on the car. He quoted me around £500.00. I mentioned it was very high quotation. Mr Jeremy advised me that will be the top price as the car was standing for a long period of time and they do not know what can they find wrong, but if it is the case of straight forward service the price could be lower than £500.00.
Friday the 17th, I got a call from Mr Jeremy to tell me the car was ready.
I collected the car on the Saturday the 18th July 2015;Invoice for £903.98 I was surprise to see the amount. I did asked if there was any major repair to the car. Mr Jeremy advised of a new battery as they have tested for few hours on the car and it was not holding the charge. Mr Jeremy had not called to advise of job to be completed and the price and more disappointed and worried of the double of the amount compared with the initial quotation.
I paid the bill, left the garage to find out the dashboard cover was moving very badly. I returned and asked Mr Jeremy if someone had broken the cover.
Mr Jeremy denied it, I had to assure him the day before collection the dashboard cover was intact. I was assured it would get a replacement. I did park the car on the drive 3miles from the garage.
On The 24th July, I called the garage to ask if there is any news of the replacement cover Mr Jeremy allegedly told me they cannot find one, I did tell him it is very strange as I have seen several online. In addition, the car had stopped running, the battery was empty and it could not be recharged.
I asked if the Alternator was check before the new battery was replaced. He confirmed could not be the alternator and may be was something on in the car discharging the new battery.
On Saturday 25th July, I called RAC to check the electric and battery of the car; they have reported the fault of the Alternator. RAC advised me to take the car to the same garage as after the amount of money paid the garage has the responsibility of sorting it out and that may be the old battery was ok after all.
I brought the car back to Surrey Sport & Classics on the 27th July; Someone that does not disclosed his name but was wearing a top with the name of the garage on it told me the Alternator can go at any time, they have checked the Alternator. At this moment, he returned close to me and told me the mechanic has checked the site in question. I strongly disagreed; as the clips need to be removed by the soft-top but they looked to have not been removed at all.
Another person shouted at me several times "are you calling me a liar “ threatening and advancing towards me pointing a very large screwdriver on my face. Mr Jeremy returned, advised me he will sort out the problems and a new Alternator for this car will cost around £50.00 plus £30. to fit it.
On Friday 31st July 2015, I got a call from Mr Jeremy to advised me the car was ready, I asked during the conversation what was the total amount of the repair of the Alternator. Mr Jeremy told me he would tell me on Saturday during collection.
1st August 2015 with my wife and daughter went to the garage to collect my MGF. We waited for very long time for Mr Jeremy to approach us. Approximately 40 minutes later, Mr Jeremy presented the bill for 174.05, double of what it was quoted.
To avoid another allegation I settled the bill and left the garage.
They quoted a price, no advice has been given to any additional items cost or additional jobs.
At Surrey sport and Classics they use physical intimidation; rude manners to get fraudulent unconfirmed prices.
