What a hidden gem… when we moved in St Thomas we fell in love straightaway. Most brilliant coffee, one of the best cheesecakes I have ever tried and a lovely atmosphere! We keep going back again and again! Make sure you don’t miss it if you visit Exeter!

Lovely little cafe. I hear the bread and cakes are lovely, only had hot drinks this time, so will have to go back again. Also dog friendly which was a bonus for us.

Has the best selection of baked goods. You can tell they are made fresh at 5am that morning which is a quality missed from bakeries nowadays. Get in early for the best selection, mind. Good mix of savoury (the focaccia sandwiches are insanely good and massive) and sweet (banana bread and cruffins are a staple). Coffee is fresh. Calm, intimate atmosphere if you want to sit in. Can't fault it, and super grateful to have a family run business of this quality on my doorstep.

Recommended to me by an acquaintance who works in the food industry, made sure we visited whilst on holiday. So good we went back twice. Excellent small batch sourdough bread (get there fast, comes out around 1030)- up there with the best I’ve tasted. Coffee - great choice - guest coffees available too - great rotation of excellent roasters. Other non coffee drinks not an afterthought- (nice softs). Pastries - changing menu with core faves - Almond croissant and cookies were especially good. Well laminated viennoiserie -
a slightly heavier dough if you want to be particular and comparative to the market. Cinnamon bun was not too sweet which is refreshing. Would loved to have tried the whole range but alas no time or stomach space! Saw a focaccia proving pre-oven which looked incredible but couldn’t stay to wait for it to bake. What I think is most important to note that this is a small batch handmade bakery - how they both make /bake everything in house and also makes the coffee too I have no idea - what a super team with a lot of skill and talent. Both super friendly and happy to chat too. Dog friendly and stylish space and also nice to be out of the city centre. Will be sure I return if in the area again.

Jenn and Ed's coffee and cakes make me very happy! They serve the most delicious coffee and the most scrumptious cakes and baked treats. They make every thing fresh every day which blows my mind considering the variety they provide. A consistent fave has to be their banana and chocolate loaf followed by their almond croissant. They also make the best sourdough. The atmosphere is always lovely, it's perfect for a catch up with friends, and family or to do a bit of work. They made St Thomas a better place. They also play the best music! If you haven't made it your coffee hang out - you should!

You can always tell the difference between a handmade and ‘quick made’ croissant. The Lilac Bakery did not disappoint- their handmade croissants needed no extras - super tasty just as they are.
The cinnamon buns are light and fluffy and not too sweet (yummy!). The coffee was strong and tasty. The staff are so lovely, welcoming and cheery. A perfect morning coffee and croissant spot- thank you!!

Ps. the crockery and table flowers are TOP NOTCH and make for a beautiful photo!

Lilac bakery is an exquisite bakery. The baked goods are some of the most beautifully crafted and flavoursome that I have ever had. The chocolate almond croissants are to die for. I make an effort to go to Lilac Bakery every Saturday morning. The coffee is, to my palate, some of the best in Exeter. The owners of the cafe are accommodating, very personable, and clearly passionate about all aspects of their work. If you are serious about the quality of the coffee you drink and if you love baked goods, sweet and or savoury, then you must try Lilac Bakery.
