Some of many examples:
Once I made a booking for 6pm. Got in there 5 min. before the scheduled time. Three people were already waiting to be serviced though – 2 of these didn't have a booking... but were simply not told by anyone in the shop that me and another person who arrived after them had a booking for 6pm. When the first person with a booking was called, one of those waiting without a booking got angry and left shouting, saying someone should have told him that he was waiting for a long time while people who came later just had bookings. The other person without a booking also got angry for the same reason, but stayed. The time comes for my appointment. One of the barbers simply called this angry guy in... completely disregarding my booking. The angry guy was then heading to the seat and, puzzled by the situation, I reminded the barber, politely, that I had made a booking for the time. The barber responded angrily: "CALM DOWN! CALM DOWN! JUST WAIT. WE'LL GET BACK TO YOU." Who wasn't calm was definitely the barber. How difficult is it to communicate properly, both with me and the person who didn't have a booking?
The shop just accepts cash. Why? I don't know. Once I brought in some coins. The barber just saw them and immediately said: "we won't accept that – we're not a fish market". Was it really necessary to complement the sentence with that?
In fact, this same barber seems to have a bad day every day. Cuts the hair while giving whatever instruction very rudely – every single time. "SIT STRAIGHT PLEASE" – there I go and sit straight. "I SAID STRAIGHT". I'm sorry, that's the straightest I can sit. Maybe you could increase the height of the seat? You're in a barber shop, not in the military. Watch the way you speak.
And then, the worst: I made a booking for 6pm a certain day. To do so you need to pay a non-refundable deposit of £10 (with the remaining £29 for my package being paid once in). By 6:15pm however I gave them a call to say that unfortunately I tried but last minute wasn't gonna be able to attend the booking (...the first time in dozens of bookings that I ever needed to reschedule), asking if we could reschedule the appointment for the following morning; any time they had available. The guy on the phone says he can't do anything and that I should send an email to "the manager". I ask still if a certain barber has availability for 9am – he says yes, but that I need to email the manager in any case. Why the bureaucracy, really...? Just get the appointment rebooked... my god! I email the so-called manager. The guy responds but doesn't address my question, just saying that "honestly" the booking I had made only 4 hours prior had cost them 2 bookings – one at 6pm and one at 6:30pm... because my booking takes longer. Yes, my friend – I usually go for the higher pricing. Thanks for noticing! When I made the booking, all slots for the day were available, as they almost always are at any time. Surely I blocked their calendar for what would have been a very busy booking agenda!
I refuse to engage in the provocation and simply ask if they'd be available at 9am next day and if we can still honour the booking, highlighting that I'm a returning customer. The guy did see my message on the website chat, but offered no response whatsoever. Very cheap from their part indeed to prefer to keep £10 and lose the remaining £29 + a returning customer who always goes for the higher pricing. So apart from lacking basic common sense on how to deal with customers they also seem to lack the most basic math skills.
Perhaps you guys could use these £10 of mine you so desperately want to keep without having worked for it to pay for a course on the very basics of how to deal with customers. After repeated unpleasant situations, I'll be returning to another barber I know who, despite being a bit further, is definitely worth the tube premium, with infinitely more professionalism and care for the customer than, as the barber here himself said, this "fish market".
I had Ali cutting mine on both occasions and he's great! He recommended a certain cut with my hair and he was bang on. Cheers!
Cannot recommend them enough!
