John began doing my cut and didn't seem to have trouble with the fade, although this seemed to take longer than I'm normally used to, but I put this down to John being thorough. When coming to do my waves, John asked if I was sure I'd want a 2 guard as this was quite short. I explained that this is what I'd normally have at the barber I had previously been going to prior to this. He then asked me again, this time explaining "this is what you would do for afro hair, but your hair is not that "afroy." As previously mentioned, I have mixed race, multi-textured hair; so, I am very aware of this. I proceeded to tell him again that this is the cut I normally have, at which point he said he was not comfortable doing this and said he wanted "to wait until Ross came back" (for context, Ross is the owner of the shop).
We waited for Ross to arrive, and they had a conversation outside of the shop, about me whilst I was there. There was no consultation with me as the customer, just Ross & John talking about me outside the shop. They then came back in to ask me again if "I was sure about the length of cut?" The recommended cutting with a 4 guard instead as again they thought the 2 was "too short." I conceded to this because at this point, I really just wanted my hair to be cut.
As John was doing this, he informed he that he "doesn't do forward facing clipper work," and that he wasn't particularly comfortable doing it. He cut the length down, but did not do the line up as requested, and instead used salt spray - which can dry out afro hair - to "texture" the cut. He then charged me full price for this, despite the experience and the fact he was unable to provide the requested specifications of the cut.
I've found it hard enough to find barbers in Cardiff that are able to deal with afro/mixed afro hair & have had bad experiences in the past. Whilst I wouldn't suggest that the experience at the shop was comparable to others - both John & Ross were very polite - they clearly both didn't have the skill or the knowledge to be able to deal with my mixed hair.
If you have Euro-centric hair and are looking for a sharp cut, I'd definitely recommend Jones. However, if you have multi-textured, mixed hair like me, I'd recommend you look elsewhere.
So pleased I have found this Shop
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
He rushed it and it looks nothing like what I wanted - It looks awful.
Wont ever be using again.
