A little off the beaten track; once you've crossed the motorway turn sharp right by Lock Cottage and go all the way to the end. Don't be put off by the gear lying around. As I drove in I was met by the owner and escorted to my room overlooking the stable yard. The rooms were clean, really smart and comfortable. Although the motorway was close by I don't find it overly noisy. In fact the donkey was more audible but not exactly a problem.
Breakfast is continental style, generous with fresh fruit, and served in the room. Not one complaint from this traveller, especially at £40 a night.

The nearby flight of canal locks and old canal buildings are a reminder of times past.lt seems the Canal and River Trust are growing on various waterway plants ready to plant in the less seedy areas. Eor Lodge is well spoken of so could be a wholly worthwhile visit. I am at this place on a narrowboat for a few days.

The picture shows the building used by the canals and rivers trust. It's where I go as a volunteer lockkeeper. It's a great place to be and gets me out of the house. Anyone else fancies working on a voluntary basis on the canals go to the CRY website. You will be made most welcome. I don't think there is any accommodation there unless there's a b&b close by. Hope this helps.
