I stayed 4 nights at Gill`s wonderful B & B home last week and the personal care and attention she gave to me and all the guests was amazing.
As for the breakfasts - I have never had better anywhere.
Very comfortable and homely and will be my place to stay for as long as I visit the area in the future.
Thanks Gill - 5 stars!

Stayed for 1 night. Very welcoming owner and easy to find. A good choice of eating in the area plus well situated for local attractions. Breakfast was brilliant. Gill makes loads of home made jams, preserves, marmalades, bread, the list goes on. It's a foodie delight with the vast majority of things sourced locally with zero food miles.

We stayed at this lovely B&B in the village of Alrewas while visiting relatives in Burton. The room was lovely and very comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities, a big shower cubicle and beautiful furnishings, see my photo of the 1948 London Olympics teapot.

However, what sets this B&B apart is your hostess, Gill. We were greeted with a warm friendly smile. The wall in the dining room is covered with certificates of all colours (Bronze, Silver and mainly Gold) awarded for hygiene, training and particularly the delicious breakfast you will be served in the morning. Everything from fruit, porridge, full English, lighter breakfast. The eggs are from Gill's chickens the meat products are all locally sourced (zero miles clocked up in their production or delivery). The jams/marmalade/chutneys etc are varied and different and are home made by Gill.

On the table please read the info - she will bake you a loaf of bread with 24 hours notice, packed lunches can be arranged. Gill also offers dinner if requested in advance - a good menu is supplied in the dining room.
If you choose to eat out 10 minutes walk away is the picturesque village of Alrewas with flower-decked half timbered houses 3 pubs, a big Co-op and a fish & chip shop. We went to the Crown (see separate review). Gill told us that at least one of the houses dates back to Henry VIII!
This B&B is not perfect, and would probably attract criticism if you are being all 'Four in a Bed' about it - a little dusty in places and getting the temperature of the shower right was a bit of a challenge
However, I haven't reviewed everything that is wonderful about Amber House because it is brilliant. I've left something for you to discover for yourself.

Was very excited to visit amber house as seen good reviews but was very disappointed, dated rooms that are in desperate need of a deep clean, water bottle
Lid thick With black gunk, dusty pictures and rails, the shower had lots of black mould, wardrobe falling to bits and there was a strange smell to everything, poured milk into tea at breakfast for it instantly curdle and the breakfast itself was almost inedible, the host herself is an absolute delight, very pleasant and welcoming but I feel the place is a massive let down and needs to up its standards, a real shame

Such a welcoming friendly host who is so helpful and accomodating. The rooms are delightful with soft white towels and little handy accessories such as a pen torch on bedside table as well as complimentary hand sanitisers.
Having arrived soaking wet after attending a biker event at the nearby National Memorial Arboretum, it was a relief to find the radiator on with a handy clothes rail hanging over it so we had somewhere to dry all our gear overnight.
Breakfast was delicious with a great choice on the menu. Cooked meals were made to order by our host Gill and there was a good selection of fruit, yogurt, cereals, rustic toast and a vast array of home made preserves! Endless pots of coffee or tea were available too.

Gill the owner was great, breakfasts very good. Communal area and dining area very pleasant. Room, bed was really comfortable, however the room in general was tired could do with an upgrade, missing skirting boards others dry rot, shower, tiles were mouldy, chair in the room dirty and worn. Wouldn't take a great deal to rectify. Microwave was rusty no glass tray, there was a dirty plate instead.

Very friendly host and comfortable lodging. The owner even provided me with a takeaway breakfast as I had to leave very early in the mornings. Nice change from the usual uniform hotels.
