One of the best locations we have ever enjoyed. Blessed with a wonderfully friendly and accommodating proprietor, this B&B is exceptionally well appointed, very clean, tidy and a delight to behold. The building itself is full of character which has been built upon with painstaking attention to detail within from exquisite paintings and furnishings to very comfortable beds, and large bathrooms which include a shower and bath you will mentally struggle to leave. The breakfast menu is comprehensive and is served with the same level of detail and excellence you hope will never end as you contemplate early retirement and a long stay here. The town itself is a wonderful step back in time whilst having the good fortune to be filled with excellent places to eat and visit affording you the opportunity to chat to the very friendly locals.

A wonderful find. An old building, lovely decor and furnishings, yummy breakfast and great host. Great location Georgian architecture all around. Norman ruined castle above. Beautiful views of the Welsh/Shropshire border and hills. Perfect stay. Had tasty meal at Dragon hotel. All good.

First class! We always choose our B&B's with care, we want our stay to be relaxing, homely and comfortable. The Old stores did not disappoint. Ruth answered the door and with a big smile and wit, we knew it was going to be a good stay. The house is gorgeous, well appointed beautifully decorated and spotless. Our room had a view of the street and the bathroom looked over the courtyard. We needed to ask for nothing as all was our finger tips.
The breakfast room again was beautifully decorated and the choice of breakfast all you needed.
The town is very quiet, no busy roads and nearly every building is listed. A truly lost gem. We really enjoyed our choice of B&B, the location our host everything. Thank you Ruth.

The bed was very comfortable and the room had a huge bathroom. It was all really clean. The host was very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was amazing! There was a high chair for our baby and toy box, lovely and child friendly. A great b&b! Hannah and Ben

A beautiful luxurious stay for the evening of our wedding day. Our host was very accommodating and worked around our very late arrival. We stayed in the ‘king Arthur’ and my god what a great big bath! Ruth greeted us the next morning with a huge smile and congratulations. A lovely warm and welcoming lady who you just natter to all day. We thoroughly enjoyed our very short stay and would easily return ! Thank you so much :)

What a wonderful find! We stayed whilst walking Offa’s Dyke and it is worth every single step off the route to stay here (about 1mile). Ruth was so welcoming and friendly and the room was incredible. Done to an exceptional standard. We will absolutely be back now we’ve found the gem of Montgomery and The Old Stores!

Surely the most delightful place to stay in the whole of Wales. Beautifully restored and decorated, our room had a feathery soft bed and linen , with a very generous ensuite ,offering both shower and freestanding bath, complete with fluffy towels and delightfully scented skincare.
The most stress we experienced was deciding on our breakfast , there were delicious options but my husband chose the full Welsh and I had the vegetarian option, which was literally one of the nicest breakfasts I have ever had. .
All the above was topped off by Ruth's lovely welcome , she was great company, good fun and so hospitable.
I haven't stopped telling anyone who will listen about this hidden treasure.
Thankyou Ruth.
