My husband and I and our dog Cody stayed at this beautiful hotel right next to a lake surrounded by scenic mountains. The owners Angela and Brian made us feel very welcome with their warm hospitality and wonderful home cooked food. This historic hotel is full of character and charm with a lovely homely feel and it is dog friendly!
On a cool evening Angela put the log fire on for us and I've ordered a hot chocolate while my husband enjoyed a glass of wine and a local ale. The bar has a good selection of local ales and ciders.
Nothing was too much for Angela and Brian who made us feel very welcome. We will be back for another stay at pen y bont hotel.
Huge thank you 🙂

Our room was nice and clean really comfy beds, we had the twin room. The owners went out their way to make sure you have a good stay, beautiful views over the lake , no matter the weather, rain or sun brings a different experience. Breakfast is ok gives you a good start to the day. Would have given 5 stars, but the price of a pint is expensive, but that was the only downside to our stay, other than that all good. Lovely walk down the lane too which takes you round the lake.

Was hoping to camp on the lake in our van as per recommendation and signage saying it was allowed. Tried to contact the number on the signs and website multiple times to no avail. Ended up moving on. Great shame as lovely spot and wanted to support a small local business rather than commercial campsite.

So idyllic! Perched on the side of a lake and in the heart of the hills, this is a tranquil hotel sitting proudly in the landscape. There are some great walks up neighbouring hills accessible from the front door of the hotel, as well as some great nature watching. The owners provide a very friendly welcome and top-notch Welsh cooked breakfast. Our bedroom was neat and had feather pillows and duvet, while the bar had a good choice of drinks. While the affordable prices reflect not to expect total luxury, do expect great views, a great breakfast and a good night's sleep!

We visited this facility with a family of four with my wife and two daughters. Though we paid more than £450 pounds our visit was a total failure for the reasons narrated below. Don’t commit the mistake that we did and learn from it , if you are visiting Wales in the nearby future.

1. My wife committed the mistake of booking this hotel last year through booking.com who kept on rolling this facility for more than a year claiming no refunds would be entertained when everybody else was providing refunds,
2. We booked four rooms for eight persons, as we expected guests who were scheduled to visit us from USA but could not due to the Covid, but we ended up paying for two rooms for 3 days and 2 nights from May 22 to May 24, 2021 at the paid price of four rooms.
3. The owners of the hotel told us that we would not get any refunds because booking.com has not given them any refunds.
4. The place where the hotel is located is in front of a lake which is the only positive thing I could see of this facility but it was heavily overpriced and not close to I would say a third rated bed or breakfast facility as far as the arrangements were concerned.
5. The hotel is using the lake as their selling point but be aware that this is not worth the money they are charging you.
6. It’s not a hotel or even close to a hotel, as claimed by them. They can neither be classified as a hotel, restaurant or a guest room or any type of resting or place of stay.
7. It’s like a small residence similar to a bed and bath facility with a feature of breakfast available at a high price, should you so choose for it.
8. Only thing professional was the rates at which booking.com and the so called hotel charged because we committed the mistake of booking through them. Exorbitantly priced, but not even 10% of the money’s worth.
9. Be really careful with companies like booking.com because they are really doing a shoddy job by advertising such facilities at such high prices. I would rate booking.com as extremely unsatisfactory and poor. Avoid them, if you can.
10. Problems with such type of facilities is that the owners are also residing in the premises which compromises your privacy.
11. It’s really the owners home and they are not professionals hospitality providers and have no knowledge as to how this industry runs but keep on thinking that they are doing a professional job and try to behave as such.
12. They want to police around and deliver lectures unnecessarily whenever they can and especially at the beginning of the tour to everybody entering into their premises even if you are not interested in it.
13. There is not enough space for you to live in the premises what to say of guests. Our guests who were staying in a nearby independent Caravan Holiday Homes, want to visit us and to our embarrassment they were not allowed to enter the premises.
14. Instead we visited them and they had an independent Caravan Holiday Home facility at much cheaper rates filly equipped. This was priced at one fourth if the price that we were ripped off of.
15. Try to book Holiday Homes for they are a much better option, they are reasonably priced, there is no interaction with the owners except to that you can call them whenever you need to, facilities are independent, reasonably priced, at good locations, and facility is fully equipped with all amenities that one could wish of. You can invite friends or guests if you want to without any questions or restrictions.
16. Booking.com is a big facility. They are also not a corner shop. They should act and behave as such.

Absolutely excellent Angela and Brian are fantastic, the room was lovely and clean and the food is excellent.

The hotel faces the lake and has a lovely walk right around the lake on good walking ground, if you walk all the way around it thre is a couple of stretches on the road but it's manageable.
It's situated at the Mach loop where you might if you are lucky get to see the aircraft fly through the valley which only happens on weekdays and is not all day long and also the weather can affect it.

We really enjoyed our stay and would like to thank Angela and Brian for everything
