In all honesty, I visited Hay-on-wye, largely to visit this place and I must say I wasn't disappointed at all! In fact it outlived my expectations! There are so many books that the first feeling is that of being overwhelmed. But once you get over that, you realise you need not a few hours but two days at least to go through each aisle and everything they offer! It's not what you'd call a second hand bookshop in terms of prices, don't be mistaken, they do sell new books as well as old first editions and leather bound book editions etc and hence it's not cheap. It is on the pricier end of a bookshop. There's a hidden gem of books in the basement which most people forget to visit. There's also a cafe serving absolutely fantastic pancakes at the far end of the cafe! The fries/chips and the pancakes saved my day as vegetarian person! My partner loved them so much that he ordered a second plate for himself! The staff is very kind and thoughtful as well! The leather chairs are comfy, so go there with time on your hands to make yourself comfy in those chairs to indulge with a book of your choice!
PS they also sell amazing cards, journals and notebooks!

A beautiful bookshop in a wonderful building. Has two floors selling both new and secondhand books. There's also a cafe which serves great food, and is set in a beautifully bright spacious area towards the back. Also houses a fantastic cinema.

I love this bookshop. Aesthetically beautiful, lovely cafe and a massive selection of books displayed. Highly recommend.

Three floors of books in a beautiful building full of character. Downstairs there is a good stock of second hand books in various conditions, but prices are generally slightly higher than your usual second hand/charity fare. (This was a recurring theme through all of the bookstores in town) I saw few first or special editions, again very pricey.

The first and second floors house a very good range of new books. Additionally, the second floor has a comfortable seating area in case your friends or significant other are not as enthusiastic about spending a few hours perusing bookshelves.

By far one of the best bookshops in Hay-on-wye. Very big selection of new and old books. Quality varies, but for the second hand books I'd say it's reasonably priced. If you're looking for a browsing experience, then thumbs up from me, but if you want a bargain. Go online because none of the books are "bargain worthy" anywhere.

Marvellous array of books on all subjects; clearly categorised; wonderful stationery department with unusual notebooks, cards, wrapping paper etc; the Café was closed the Sunday we visited but looked very 8nviting; v clean toilet but could do with more cubicles; v helpful and friendly staff; the new craft section with upmarket yarn, craft books and fabric was again wonderful.
It was an extremely positive experience.

Always a real joy to visit!
Books on every subject you could want or possibly need, a good mix of new and second hand books over 3 beautifully organised floors. We spend just as much time taking photos of the place as we do browsing the shelves.
The staff are always so knowledgeable and helpful, even if you have the vaguest description of a book they'll find out what you're looking for!
