I am fairly certain it wasn't my inability to read a timetable but as far as I can tell bus services to/from Castleton are all but nonexistent. In short: avoid services here... I tried to board one local service towards Castleton from Hope but they didn't accept contactless payment (despite almost everywhere trying to go cashless during the coronavirus pandemic). The next bus that was due to run was a minimum of 25 minutes later than expected (in which time I had managed to walk the distance all but about 150 yards whilst dragging a heavy suitcase)... When leaving Castleton a considerable number, maybe twelve to fifteen, of passengers were waiting at this 'bus station' for a bus to Hope/beyond but in the thirty minutes it took me to walk back to the National Rail station (at Hope) no buses had passed by in either direction! I might add that the weather was also pretty awful which really rubbed salt into the wound. Ultimately, I only caught my train by the skin of my teeth... My recommendation for visiting Castleton, which is well worth it by the way, is to travel light and walk or maybe arrange for a local minicab service.
