This cafeteria has an awful service. The staff is very mean and unfriendly, there is no flexibility for asking something from the main meal and they kick you out if more students join you for lunch and don't buy food. This does not make sense since it is CAFETERIA IN A UNIVERSITY. I would not go there again and would not recommend it!!!!

I had no idea the cafe was open to the public. You can literally call in off the street for breakfast, lunch or a sandwich & a sit down. Which is great to know as there isn’t anything too local like this. The food is delicious, you would pay £12 + for some of the meals served. The staff are very welcoming and happy to help. You have to clear your own table which I do not mind, there’s a carousel to put your tray onto, but some people seemed to just leave the tables a mess, after all it’s a cafe, not a table service restaurant, and you wouldn’t do it at Mcdonalds. I will definitely be taking the family in here more often.

Usually overpriced dry food...occasionally overpriced decent food....

Generally extremely convenient for students who perhaps have not packed their lunch for that day. Staff are really nice

Seating area is limited given the amount of people coming in

Palatine is the best option to buy something and eat inside Durham university (unless fat hippo or tango have brought their carts near the library). That being said, the food option is usually quite bad except for one or two things. Tuna melt and every other pizza are ok.
They have stupid policies about your own food. Like even if you buy your main from them, you can't bring your own desert cause they will come and warn you. Ridiculous...

Great lunch food, varied every day. Today they served turkey in tomato sauce with some pasta and peas. Usually, one meal costs 5 to 6 £. There is always pizza (@ italiens, don't expect real pizza) in addition to the daily meals.

Food is generally really good, although can be pricey (£5 to £7 for main and sides). When students are at University queues are usually very long so consider going early/late.

Nice food, friendliest staff in Durham. I don't care much for the drink I get, I go there because I love seeing them every morning.
