An undoubtedly beautiful cafe with one of the best views in Durham. The food is really nice, they have a good variety of options, with good portions that are well-priced. The pancakes are very yummy and so are the jackfruit bao buns. I did get the avocado toast once though and they were pretty stingy on the avocado, which was used more as a spread than as a topping. The carrot cake was lovely, but very cinnamon-heavy if that’s not for you. The coffee is amazing, which feels like a must for any cafe. Overall, great view & good food.

Really good food, but perhaps slightly overpriced for the amount of food you get. The pancakes are a classic, but I chose to get the Bao Buns on this occasion. They were really delicious - would recommend if you fancy trying something different!

Beautiful food and amazing view.

One of the best cafes in Durham imo. If you’re a student, it’s perfect to bring your parents to when they come and visit or to toddle out to on a weekend with friends. Would also be lovely for after a long walk (very dog friendly and I love to dog watch there as I’m missing my dogs at home v much).

So many vegan/ vegetarian options and all of the food that came out looked gorgeous.

I have been a couple of times and managed to get a seat by the river both times but just be aware that there’s sometimes a bit of a queue.

4 stars because sometimes the service can be a little slow but the staff are really friendly.

Fabulous restaurant café for lunch/brunch. Visited this weekend on Saturday lunch and Sunday breakfast whilst staying in Durham to visit my daughter at Uni. She recommended the place. Saturday lunch was delicious …I had the smashed avocado and chilli on toast and my daughter had the goat’s cheese toastie. Both were so tasty that every mouthful was a delight. Even the little bowl on the side of cucumber with dill is so tasty. Perfectly balanced dishes. Afterwards we shared a triple chocolate
brownie which was SO good.

This café has a beautiful setting. I visited once before in summer on a sunny day and it was lovely sitting in the seats by the river-side. This time it was a cold wet weekend but the place was warm and cozy.

You can’t book and therefore as it is popular you have to queue at lunchtime but well worth the 20-30 mins wait. No many places I’m willing to stand in drizzle and cold but definitely worth it here.
There was an issue with a customer whilst we were there on Saturday lunch and a junior waitress reported it to the manager/owner. We ended up speaking to the owner who was lovely and apologetic for something not the fault of the restaurant but an inconsiderate customer. Whole issue was professionally handled by the owner. We returned again on Sunday morning for breakfast, where my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her granola bowl. The loose-leaf teas here (served in a lovely pot) were really tasty too and the quality is worth the extra cost for a tea.

Beautiful cafe/restaurant, it's a hidden gem right in the middle of Durham city centre! The view from the window was beautiful, so peaceful and calming. The heaven chocolate and millionaire shortbread tasted great, but the highlight without a doubt was the homemade carrot cake, it was divine! It was a generous portion too. The service was great, the staff were very friendly and fast. Would recommend 100%!

We went to Riverview Kitchen for breakfast and it won't be the last!! If you have a dog, don't worry because they are dog friendly! My friend brought her dog with us and they even gave him biscuits which was very sweet of them. The service was very warm and friendly and made us feel like at home. We ordered pancakes which were amazing! But they offer a huge varity of items for breakfast. So if you don't have a sweet tooth, they got you! Honestly, if you are looking for a cozy place to have coffee, breakfast or simply to have a good time, visit the Riverview Kitchen. Thank you for looking after us!! We'll definitely go back!!

One of the greatest cafe in Durham!! Really large portion of food with a really reasonable price. Their tea is really nice too, and the amount is much more than I expected. Lucky that I dun hv to queue (perhaps due to holidays) highly recommend.
