Cafe 1899 Gedling Country Park

We made our very first visit here today and decided to have a snack before our walk round the park. The cafe was spotless and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The cobs we had were well filled and delicious. The coffee was hot and flavoursome. We will definitely be calling again next time we visit the park.

Lovely coffee and views outside great. Unfortunately due to council not paying for enough staff to man the very successful place they have had to close off inside the cafe and therefore very dark and cramped inside now. Feel sorry for the staff as it used to be lovely inside and was well designed to make the most of the view. Now they have to man the hatch as well as everything else. 🙄

Very good if all you want is a cup of coffee. However, I was surprised at their total inflexible attitude towards sandwiches today. Although I could order a ham sandwich, I couldn’t have a ham Toastie, as all the toasties already have cheese in them! They could not, or would not put my ham sandwich in the grill! Go figure!

Everytime we come here we always get such friendly service with a smile. They always go out their way, specially for kids (my son is a fussy eater). Food is always fantastic (I love a crunchy jacket potatoe & a strong coffee 😋). We're always happy to come back again and again ☺️

Was little disappointed having read some of the negative comments. I use the cafe on an almost daily basis and all the staff are cheerful polite and helpful . The drinks and cobs are superb and nothing is too much trouble for Tanya and her staff. Long may it continue. Having read a number of recent negative reviews it strikes me there seems to be-a pattern with a number coming from people designated local guides. Just saying are there vested interest in play?

Lovely views but shame about the customer service (or lack of it). Went to get a coffee after a walk, firstly no decaf coffee available for my mum who can’t have caffeine. Secondly my coffee was so hot the coffee was ruined, milk tasted burnt and when I politely asked for a dash of cold milk and mentioned it was so hot it burnt my mouth, the rude young female member of staff said sarcastically as I walked away “or you could just wait for it to cool down”. Not the point, good coffee is ruined if it’s this hot. Next time I’ll take my flask and save money and not have the backchat. It’s a shame as the male member of staff was very polite.

Disappointed with the customer service we received.
My partner ordered a BBQ chicken/ cheese and tuna panini. There was a miscommunication between him and the person he was ordering from which lead me to question if it was just tuna (I am intolerant to cheese), after clarifying she thought he meant just cheese so instead I ordered a tuna sandwich. The women who was in the kitchen came through and the women serving explained the cheese panini was no longer required, instead a tuna sandwich. She exclaimed the panini had already been put on which lead the server to ask if that's ok, I said no as I cannot eat it due to my intolerance.
To conclude quickly, we ended up paying for all three sandwiches and have wasted the cheese panini. Very disappointed at the communication and how the situation was handled by the staff. My partner should not have felt he had to pay for all three sandwiches due to a communication breakdown between him and the server.

Food was ok, average value for money.

Tasty coffee. Fantastic cakes. Friendly service. Had a nice meander around the park and ended up with a cafe visit.
