I live in America and ordered a cake when I was in London. The sponge cake was exceptional. Margaret is a very professional and skilful baker. Her cakes are nothing but moreish and delicious. You can't get any better. Attention to detail and a timely service. Very passionate about her work. I will highly recommend her cakes.

Margaret made my daughter's 18th Birthday cake a few days ago and It was perfectly made. The cake was beautifully decorated and the guests at the party could not wait to take a bite. When they finally got to eat it, everyone wanted to know where I got the cake from because it was moist and absolutely delicious. Thank you very much for a fabulous cake.

A cake to remember for my 50th joint Birthday with my husband. My guests still talks about the design and pleasant it tastes! Margaret dressed the table for the cakes and her work wow me all the time. She is an amazing person. She works with you for any designs and writing you love to have on the cake. Margaret made our traditional wedding cake. It was the best red velvet cake I have ever tasted, it was so good we order a plain version every now and then to give our guests! Simply the best!

I have placed many orders with Sweet Essence and never been disappointed. The cakes are to die for especially the Carrot and Red Velvet cakes. The cakes are moist, delicious and succulent. Margaret is such a pleasant and lovely person who delivers professional, top box service.

I wanted a bespoke cake made for my babies first birthday and came across the sweet essence cakes website. I was impressed with the pictures shown on there and the reviews were all positive.
I gave Magaret my brief of the cake I had in mind along with pictures. It was a simple vanilla sponge cake with buttercream filling, sugared flower decorations and icing on top. I was really looking forward to seeing the cake as I'd expected it to look pretty and professionally made. It was only until I returned home and took it out of the box and saw it in the light I noticed several large areas of the sponge were clearly burnt (see photos). When I informed Margaret she replied by saying it was not burnt but singed and assured me it would not affect the taste of the cake. Because the cake was bare around the sides and the fact that it was uneven in colour where it had been burnt, it appeared badly made. The icing on top was uneven and jagged around the sides and the personalised lettering looked amateur. Upon cutting and tasting the cake my guest's comments were that it tasted burnt in some areas and was dry. The cake I received was incomparable to those pictures on her website. The quality of it was certainly not of someome who has 10 or more years worth of baking experience. The money I paid for it was well overpriced. She offered to give me a refund had I been unsatisfied after cutting into the cake and return it to her. How embarrassing would it have been for me to inform my guests to stop serving up cake so I could return it and, more importantly be without a cake for my baby's birthday party.

In response to your comment below. You say you pride yourself on customer satisfaction. Surely you would not have given me a cake that was burnt in the first instance.You admitted that the oven played up and you gave me your word it wouldn't taste burnt or be dry. The party was on a Sunday evening so it was too late in the day for me to find a substitute for your cake. You said in the ten years of your baking I'am the first person to give negative feedback. Essentially I feel it is important to leave a review and I am just being honest and letting you know the opinions of mine and my guest. Thank you.

The best cake maker in London by far. Cakes are moist and decadent. The carrot and red velvet cakes are to die for. Margaret is very professional and pleasant and service is fantastic. Highly recommended.
