By far, one of the worst companies I have done business with, it ended in a small court case being opened. I required a Friends themed cake for a birthday event. I placed the order through the Iced With Elegance website. I was then contacted by Mary, who at first, seemed a nice, down to earth person. The order was placed two weeks in advance to ensure that it would arrive prior to the event. I was requested to pay a £30 deposit upfront, which I agreed. A week before the event, I did not hear back from Mary regarding the order, so I contacted her. She said that the cake would be made at the end of the week to be delivered before the 27th August which was the day of the event. I was then asked to pay £80, this included the £9.50 next day delivery cost. I was told by Mary that she would send me a picture of the cake before handing it over to the courier. On the day that the cake was supposed to be dispatched, no photo of the cake was sent over, which at this point I started to get a little worried, but relieved when the tracking started to move. On the 26th August, which was supposed to be the day of delivery, the delivery courier had informed me that the consignment had be damaged and would not be delivered to me. At this point it was an utter shambles from here onwards. I imminently contacted Mary, obviously I understand that it was not her fault that the courier has damaged the consignment which held the cake. She said once the cake was returned to her, she would then offer a full refund, I agreed with this. A week passed and for some reason the courier delivered the cake to me and I was told that the sender (Mary) requested this. At this point I was furious as Mary told me once the cake was returned to her she would offer a full refund. I sent her images of the cake, which was smashed to smithereens (see images attached to my review). I was then issued a refund of £90! I was absolutely shocked as a full refund was promised. I fully understand that the amount due is only £10.50, but that is not the point. If the item (cake in this matter) does not arrive in the condition expected then a full refund should be issued. But the problems do not stop there. Mary send me an invoice of the order, it clearly said the price of the cake was £90. So I overpaid by £20. I have requested an explained to Mary that she owes me this amount, I would even be happy to accept half as it was the courier’s fault and not hers, but then she started to ignore my messages and didn’t bother to answer any of my questions why I was overcharged for the cake. I waited a week to see if Mary would issue the amount she owed me, but she didn’t. I then notified her that I would be opening a small court claims appeal, she read my message but didn’t respond again. I am currently in the process of the small court claims and will update this review if I receive my refund and I will be reporting the business to trading standards, like I said, I know it is only £10.50, but it is morally wrong. I wouldn’t suggest purchasing a cake from here.
