Liked: The camping pod was lovely, beautiful scenery. Lovely weekend for it. Awesome layout. Had everything you need for a relaxing weekend. The facility block was well maintained. It was great to have the pizza van arrive on to the site on Saturday evening.
In the wash up area they had a board that showed local walks. Me and my partner did the circular local walk, well signed and easy to follow. Great way to enjoy peak district without having to drive for a walk.
Chesterfield is about a ten minute drive, nice little town with shops, great to explore a new area

Liked: The location is fab. Scenery is beautiful. What a view! The showers etc are free and they are the cleanest I've ever seen on a campsite. Everything is well maintained and well organised. The owners are very helpful and lovely people. They have thought of everything. Like that you can hire fire-pits etc.
The place feels very secure.
Good to have ice-cream available etc and a pizza van in a Saturday if you want to make use of it.

Disliked: If I went again, I would definitely want to book one of the larger pods as they are more private. The small pods are big enough for a couple but they feel a little exposed. This is my personal opinion I'm sure most people are fine with that.
The water in the shower block is too hot and there are no cold taps.

Liked: The views were out of this world! Such a relaxed place. Pods were a great size to. We had an amazing 2 nights there. Our children loved just running and playing outside. We had a day in Matlock and came back to order takeaway which was delivered to our pod! Loved the at there were 4 electrical points as well.

Disliked: Personally can’t fault Ernest retreat, maybe more near the slide for children like a see saw or swing etc

Liked: This is a great place for a young family, my children throughly enjoyed themselves playing within the fields during their visit to Ernests Retreat. The facilties were always clean and tidy. A freezer was avaliable for use, which was useful for ice packs and food storage. The owners were extrememly helpful and friendly, offering advice on the best places to visit and eat. Its reasonably priced for what is on offer. They have even organised food vans such as fish and chips and pizza to visit site weekly, which can be helpful if you fancy a lazy night of the cooking. Highly recommend.

Liked: Easy friendly check in. Coded gate for extra security in the evenings. Hut was clean with plugs, kettle and heater. 2 chairs outside to take in the views. Bring a couple of fold ups if you have children with you. Toilet/shower facilities were nice and clean. Pizza van on a Saturday was a bonus but didn’t try it as we’d brought bbq food.

Disliked: Pull out beds for children were uncomfortable for the children. It wouldn’t put us off returning though and just bring a blow up next time.

Liked: Beautiful location and views. The pod was super clean, dry and cozy (heater provided). There were tea and coffee facilities in the pod too. We also hired a fire pit! Toilets and washing up area all very clean and the manager was so lovely and helpful! Would definitely return and highly recommend.

Liked: Very friendly, warm & efficient welcome from the owner despite me arriving late due to heavy rain & flooding.
Site is beautiful, secure & very well maintained with a superb toilet block.
Wash up area was spotless & included excellent info on local walks, cafes, shops & pubs. Did i mention the freezer containing ice creams! ( honesty box )
I stayed in one of the smaller pods, perfect for a sole traveller , but there are many larger. Mine was well insulated, mattress was very comfortable. ( you provide your own linen, i used a sleeping bag & pillow, perfect! )

Disliked: Nothing!

Liked: The pod was a great size cosy and comfy, pre built bed and padded mattress provided along with a kettle mugs and complimentary coffee and biscuits, which is more than most! will definitely be staying here again. beautiful views, scenery owners and facilities! lovely place!

Disliked: the decking steps were a little slippy existing the pods, maybe could do with more grip fabric on them to prevent falls
