STAY AWAY from this company.
Had a car for 3 weeks, had to change it half way through as the tyre kept going down, I could not chance being stuck on a motorway with my severely disabled daughter.
When I dropped my car off to pick up the new one he checked my tyre and said there was nothing wrong with it, it was more than likely a sensor problem.

Get home to find I have been charged another £140 for a puncture that I never had!
Got no where with customer service, your fighting a losing battle they do not care one little bit.

Car was lost on arrival. An hour later they upgraded me and i subsequently missed a medical appoibtment in london (the whole point of hiring a car for reliablitity etc) Manager was rude and abrupt. Car i was given had scratches all over the windscreen and in low winter sun was DANGEROUS to drive.
I emailed the area manager 3 weeks ago and still not even bothered to reply. One of the worst companies I have ever encountered. Go elsewhere. If i could give 0 or negative stars I would.AVOID.

Picked up from Southampton Airport. The manager was extremely rude. I completed complaint with the servay what was ignored so I'll just report to traiding standards the issues. Thanks for the amazing customer service avis, you've just lost a long term customer 😀 👍

My first time ever making a Google review - that’s how bad an experience this place is. I would give 0 stars if I could.
Like many of the other comments, I experienced needing to pay extra for the services (damage excess), that I had been guaranteed in advance via telephone, were included in my prepayment. What was supposed to be an easy pickup then turned into a nightmare: I was of course annoyed that the local branch were charging extra and asked for an explanation. I made it clear that I did not trust the process.

The manager assisted what I presume was a new customer service agent and the manager was outrageously aggressive towards me, to a point where I had to ask him to leave the room. I ended up requesting a full refund due to the total lack of customer service and frankly intimidating behaviour. I hope, I get the money back as promised.

UPDATE no refund processed after 2 months from the branch - needed to raise a complaint with the national Avis office to get my money back!

DO NOT book a car via this Southampton AVIS branch. If you need to pick up from this location, I recommend the neighbour Sixt, who helped me in a jiffy with kind and professional staff. I ended up with a better car and better excess protection for less than with AVIS’s hidden fees. 5 stars to them:)

Great experience online and in person with the team. They were very helpful. The car was lovely and clean and very nice to drive.

The car had a slight issue but when I discussed with the team they said they would investigate and filled me with ease that the issue would be rectified for the next person.

Return of the car was simple. All charges were explained at the beginning of the rental clearly.

Much better than Enterprise who do not give a full tank of petrolwhen you pick up rental car and then expect you to judge how to fill tank so that they end up getting free petrol. Budget are transparent.

Absolute stitched up, an hour before I was due to collect vehicle.

No compensation, just a sorry - forced to rebook under a more expensive agreement and not the class of vehicle I was after.

I will be avoiding Avis with a barge-pole in future!

The booking system is flawed. When you select a pick-up time of 8pm you assume that this is the time you will collect the car. The person booking is blissfully unaware that the office actually closes at this time and therefore he or she must arrive half hour earlier. The online booking system needs to change so that the latest pick up time is 7:30pm. It's common sense. Being told that we were too late to take out the vehicle when we arrive at 8pm is unacceptable. For us it was a 40 miles round trip wasted. We could have arrived earlier if we had been advised to, but given this is an airport car hire facility, where customers are often delayed through baggage collection etc, more flexibility is needed. The fact we were not called or notified by email or text is a disgrace.
