Had a car for 3 weeks, had to change it half way through as the tyre kept going down, I could not chance being stuck on a motorway with my severely disabled daughter.
When I dropped my car off to pick up the new one he checked my tyre and said there was nothing wrong with it, it was more than likely a sensor problem.
Get home to find I have been charged another £140 for a puncture that I never had!
Got no where with customer service, your fighting a losing battle they do not care one little bit.
I emailed the area manager 3 weeks ago and still not even bothered to reply. One of the worst companies I have ever encountered. Go elsewhere. If i could give 0 or negative stars I would.AVOID.
Like many of the other comments, I experienced needing to pay extra for the services (damage excess), that I had been guaranteed in advance via telephone, were included in my prepayment. What was supposed to be an easy pickup then turned into a nightmare: I was of course annoyed that the local branch were charging extra and asked for an explanation. I made it clear that I did not trust the process.
The manager assisted what I presume was a new customer service agent and the manager was outrageously aggressive towards me, to a point where I had to ask him to leave the room. I ended up requesting a full refund due to the total lack of customer service and frankly intimidating behaviour. I hope, I get the money back as promised.
UPDATE no refund processed after 2 months from the branch - needed to raise a complaint with the national Avis office to get my money back!
DO NOT book a car via this Southampton AVIS branch. If you need to pick up from this location, I recommend the neighbour Sixt, who helped me in a jiffy with kind and professional staff. I ended up with a better car and better excess protection for less than with AVIS’s hidden fees. 5 stars to them:)
The car had a slight issue but when I discussed with the team they said they would investigate and filled me with ease that the issue would be rectified for the next person.
Return of the car was simple. All charges were explained at the beginning of the rental clearly.
No compensation, just a sorry - forced to rebook under a more expensive agreement and not the class of vehicle I was after.
I will be avoiding Avis with a barge-pole in future!
