Possibly the best priest I’ve ever had. I have moved from the area and really struggling to settle into any new churches.

Having a young family I really want to be able to find a church with the same feel, that I can settle in.

My wedding guests still comment on what a welcoming man he is!

St Mary's and St. Michael's RC church is a beautiful building kept in pristine order. I have never been an avid church goer but when I do go to mass Fr. Willie always gives one of the best services. He puts his heart and soul into the mass from the beginning, singing aloud and along with the choir and parishioners, his sermons are always relevant and to me I wouldn't always class them as sermons but more of a chat where he shares stories that i reckon most people can relate to in some way in their lives whether past or present so I suppose you could describe them as thought provoking. He's always full of cheer when mass is finished trying to say hello and thank you to as many of the congregation possible. There are some lovely features in the church and you're sure to find a quiet place to pray or light candles or visit the church shop, which is I suppose is bijou. It is run by volunteers and they have items for sale, their weekly newsletter and you can request someone to be remembered on a certain day at a chosen mass. Also Fr Willie likes to be transparent when it comes to what planned works are due to happen in the church, reasons why and the costs. All these details are in the parish newsletter where monies collected previous week and current bank account balance of monies available. I think this is excellent. Even if you are not RC you will always be welcome at St Mary's and St. Michael's church and if you are local why not try it today for Christmas it is always a special mass and I think at the moment with possible greater restrictions or lockdown could be last time you may get a chance for a while as unfortunately the church is affected like every other place where people gather in groups. Hope this has helped at least one person to visit. Lastly, this is something that I miss is, to walk by the church and see it closed when mass is not on and not be able to go in and light candles or say a prayer or have a quick chat with passed ones you miss. This is no reflection on the running of the church it's just not safe or feasible to leave it open with crime rates on the increase. I wonder if there were enough people to volunteer as I suppose church wardens say for 2 hours a day would it be possible as I would health permitting. E.g. There is a lot of people traffic on commercial road around lunch time and early afternoons with parents shopping before collecting young children, local workers on lunch break or just those that prefer to light a candle and talk or pray in more private surroundings. Definitely 5***** for the church and Fr Willie.
