Great Chinese food at a very reasonable price. All dishes taste nice and authentic. Food was quick and service isn’t bad. Ended up paying £16 per person which is very good for what we ate. Can be quite busy so reservation is recommended but not necessary on the day we went.

We visited for dinner on a Friday evening and really enjoyed our visit. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and our food was delicious. We ordered a few different dishes including the crispy beef and chicken in black bean sauce and they were the best we'd ever tried. Pricing was very reasonable as well - we'll definitely be back!

Went for a late night meal after a swift pub session. Love this place so much, I’ve never been disappointed here. Table was split half veggie half meat. Ray was looking after us and we asked if he could pick for us. He happily obliged and pick out the best dishes for us. The food was incredible as was the service. Can’t recommend enough!

I've been coming to this restaurant for over ten years. Consistently excellent and delicious food served by friendly and welcoming staff combined with their late opening times makes for an absolutely winning formula. Well worth a visit!

Shocking. Turned away at 17.25 after asking for a table for one despite the restaurant having, maybe, 20 diners. Business must be good so my suggestion is, if you're smartly dressed, polite and not on drugs or alcohol, go elsewhere because the Mayflower isn't interested in serving single diners. Deserving of zero stars and like so many reviews it's only possible to leave a comment if you lie and pretend that you actually had a meal.

I've eaten here on multiple occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the food and the waitress that turned me away has served me many times in the past. Not to worry, experiences count for a lot and this evening's experience suggests that my continued custom is not required.

A place with a 'real Cantonese kitchen' vibe. We had a selection of dishes, some of which were delicious and some that absolutely weren't for us - but there's always a risk if you're trying something new. Service was relatively quick. The place could do with slight improvement of the drinks menu, interior design and cleanliness of the bathrooms.

A Bristol gem! Whether you want the usual favourites or the more authentic dishes, the quality of the food is exceptionally high. We always discover something new on recommendation from the waiter. Large portions, ideal for sharing. A casual restaurant in a hidden away location. Great atmosphere and always a treat to visit and certainly one of our favourite restaurants in Bristol. Current favourites base on recent visit are the Salt and Chilli Soft Shell Crab, Twice Cooked Pork, Three Roasties. Choy Sum with garlic and Pei Par (prawn stuffed) tofu but also many many more!

After a couple of weeks visiting family in lovely Bristol from Victoria/Vancouver British Columbia Canada, we were craving good Cantonese. I did some research and landed on Mayflower, noticing on the online menu some authentic/hard core dishes from my childhood. As some have mentioned, the location at first is suspect (back alley, down a graffiti marked outdoor staircase) but once there it was as we had hoped- comfortable, not ornate and not pretentious. We had a nice corner table for our party of 11. Our server, who was great with our 4 pre-teens and baby, acknowledged that we come from a region of some of the best Chinese restaurants but promised we’d be happy. I practiced some of my childhood Cantonese and ordered along with some great recommendations by him. For instance, I don’t usually order crispy pork belly for dinner but it was a specialty and ended up being a big hit with the table. Food was well prepared and flavorful with good renditions on classic dishes. Not large portions but just enough. Everyone was satisfied and there was not one bad dish. It’s often risky picking an unknown restaurant which could end up being a failure, but in this case it was the right choice and very successful. As a Canadian-born Chinese person who abhors western fast-food Cantonese, I give Mayflower full thumbs up. It felt like home.
