Interesting for cricket fans!

This churchyard holds the grave of Albert Neilson Hornby, the famous cricketer and great all-round sportsman whose England side's defeat by Australia in 1882 led to the Ashes tradition.

Hornby, nicknamed 'Monkey' for his short stature and nimbleness, lived a long and eventful life and died in Nantwich in 1925.

His ornate cricket-themed grave is situated in the north-eastern corner of the graveyard.
It is visible on Google Earth, next to the bus stop symbol.

Well worth a visit if you like cricket or are intrigued by elaborate secular-themed memorials.

Nice very old country church with lots of history and strong friendly community. Everywhere is well kept and the grave yard has been extended but all graves are well kept with war graves . Whats striking is the community there were lots of volunteers working inside and outside of the church all very friendly and they all new all the facts about the church in great detail and keen to share their knowledge. The only thing that would need attention is the Hornby grave its the highlight of the church and very dirty and its the first thing you see

My local church. A beautiful old building, a lovely congregation (sometimes a little small, but usually well attended services)
