This is the large, impressive but rather grim old flint church of Chipstead, which is a confusing place. The church is not near the old village, such as it was, around the White Hart and itself not near Chipstead station and its mess of suburbia. Rather, the church is at the top end of a noisome little rat-hole called Hooley. It had a very lucky escape in the Sixties -the M23 was to have run next to it.
The roof is beginning to fail, and will need replacing soon. Apparently when the main entrance is locked, you can sometimes get in round the back (follow "Wheelchair Entrance" sign).

I’m exploring lots of churches at the moment as I am new to Shropshire and this perhaps one of my favourite churches in all of England. Great history, superb architecture and stained glass windows. It was also very welcoming, sometimes I can find churches quite austere especially as I’m fairly new to Christianity but this one had a lovely energy and every one was really lovely

Interior of church are beautiful. We were fortunate to visit when a meeting was concluding. We were able to hear some of the history of St. Margate. But we did not encourage the Lady to prolong her chat. Thank you our unofficial guide.
