We visited St. Andrews Church because we wanted to find the grave of an ancestor, after finding the grave we went into the church. We found the church interesting especially realising in the early 1800’s our ancestors had worshiped in this lovely church.

Layham church is quite a trek to find, located on the fork in the narrow rural lanes running between the fields surrounding Hadleigh. St. Andrew's is a well proportioned building with an interesting combination of stonework, but red-brick tower. The interior is especially ornate with some intricate stained glass windows. Layham churchyard is very tranquil & secluded such is it's out of the way setting...

St Andrews, Layham is a Grade ll listed building of flint and stone dating to the late C13 which was completely renewed in C19. The original C13-14 west tower was replaced in 1742 by the local red brick one we see today. The flint and stone outer walls of the nave and chancel also survive. The west door, belfry window and bell openings are outlined in yellow brick. Of significant interest is the C13 font of Purbeck Marble which is hexagonal and could have been part of an earlier church on this site.
The church is open daily for prayers or viewing.
