The church of St Peter and St Paul dates back to the 12th century, with the tower and porch being added in the 13th or 14th century. It was altered in the 18th century. This Grade II* listed building is mostly built with flint with limestone dressings.

It is a simple church with plain glass windows. The chancel ceiling is wagon boarded. There is a carved hexagonal pulpit and a plain octagonal font. But most surprisingly the original pews have been removed and replaced with an eclectic mix of wooden chairs.

There is a fragment of wall painting depicting a fish which dates back to the middle ages. There are many memorial slabs in nave and chancel floor; plus two memorial brasses and wall monuments.

The churchyard is large with mown paths around and is managed as a wildlife sanctuary. The church is open daily, dawn to dusk, and there is parking on the wide verge outside, with fairly level access.

There is a village heritage trail starting just outside the church, with 3 routes of varying length.

Very attractive old church. The vicar was a true gentleman.

Lovely peaceful church and surrounding area, Church had pews taken out because of ‘trip hazard’

Replaced with loose chairs, and….

It works , totally flexible space for Andrew the Vicar to strut his stuff 👍

If you go to the churchyard, check out John, and do a bit of tidying up if you would, his what3words location is:

Look out for RAF Oulton while you are in the area, and then go to the Walpole Inn for Spanish Tapas
