This is a marvelous little church with a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. A recent funeral service for my father delivered by the Reverend Lynda brimmed with compassion and sensitivity. His life was celebrated with as much joy as was his passing mourned with sadness.

The Church of St John the Baptist in Carno is a Victorian reconstruction, located on the site of a far older church.
The present Gothic revival church was built in 1867 and underwent restorations in 1909, 1957 and 1990.
The dedication to St John the Baptist is fairly unusual in Wales and relates to the Knights Hospitaller. In the 13th century, the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem established themselves in Carno and built a hospice for pilgrims and travellers.
Inside the church, clamped to the nave wall is a 7th or 8th century stone stele, complete with carved Celtic cross. It was found locally, one of 150 or so similar standing stones found in ancient burial grounds or along Roman roads.
The bell tower contains three 17th century bells while the spire and clock are dedicated to the memory the designer Laura Ashley. Her original factory was located in Carno from the late 1960s until 2005. She is buried in the churchyard.
