February 2019 in the Machno valley. Passing down the lane to see an offer of refreshments in St Tudclud’s church. We have come to this valley to see the Carausius stone. The refreshments are a bonus! There is the stone beautifully presented, just by the beautiful stained glass window. Caurasius, 3rd Century Emperor of all Britain and large parts of Northern France, it seems was “buried under a heap of stones” in the head of this valley. Caurasius’ nickname in the old Brythonic language was “Arth” meaning Bear. Looking at his image on the coins he minted his thick neck gives the impression of a big man. Why bury this emperor, this Caesar in this valley. Perhaps to be near the Druid Merlin or Gwynevere. The more you find out, the more you see he could be the protector of this land from the myth that is King Arthur. The refreshments were great as well.
