The seats are uncomfortable. The sofas we sat on had little life left in the springs and although there was a sofa either side of a coffee table, we had to sit on the same sofa, as there was so much girly chitchat about the prosecco and who was going to eat the last scone, that we couldn't hear each other speak in the echoey back room.
We arrived at 3pm on a Saturday and there were hardly any cakes left, only some Halloween kids cupcakes.
The only other option I could see was a menu on the coffee table which seemed like an overpriced English version of tapas (fish finger sandwich for £6). The waitress didn't go through any options of what was available or how much things were. It was straight into "What would you like?"
Opposite where we sat was a tired display of artificial flowers on one side, and on the other, a large Christmas tree with decorations for sale, but it would have been too intrusive to the people sat right next to it to start looking at the items for sale.
We ordered a cappuccino and a flat white with a cake each. The cakes arrived way before the coffees, which tasted like they were out of a vending machine. We decided not to bother staying for another coffee.
We decided to have a look in the gift shop area...if you have any accessibility issues forget it! To get upstairs to the gift shop, we had to climb up the narrow, steep steps. The choice of "gifts" was somewhat lacking. I was hoping to see lots of locally made items. On one rack most of the shelves were empty. On the clothes rail there were about 5 items of clothing, all different - one of each. I could go on.
This place can't decide if it's an upmarket restaurant, a café or a gift shop. From outside it looks like a café seen as they've got a big coffee cup outside, but that definitely isn't their strength.
If you're a lady who likes to socialise with friends over a selection of tiny cakes served in a bird cage and a glass of pink prosecco, this is the place for you! 🍰🍾
Edited 7.11.19 Thank you no.600 for your reply. I suppose some of my descriptions were harsh, but I still didn't like your venue. Sorry. Also, yes I've done a lot of reviews, which I enjoy doing in my spare time, which thousands of people have viewed.
PS I have a disability, which is why I commented on the steep stairs and uncomfortable seating.
A great array of coffees and teas along with milkshakes and soft drinks.
It can get quite busy early morning and around school drop off/pick up so booking is recommended.
I have been following Food By Sean for a good while on social media now and as soon as I saw the Autumnal Afternoon Tea advertised I knew I had to book to try out their gorgeous treats
The famous scotch egg definitely lived up to its hype, the best we've ever tasted! The chocolate layer cake was also to die for
Thank you for a wonderful afternoon, we will definitely be returning very soon
Sean's cooking as faultless and the front of house service is attentive while staying unobtrusive.
I would 100% recommend.
Mothers day this year i decided to treat my mum and grandmother to a takeaway afternoon tea and OMG what we received was utterly phenomenal!! 5 of us actually had snacks from it and the food was 5*.
Thank you to Donna, Sharon and all the team. I can't wait to be able to come and sit in again soon.
