Our son has been at Shoreham College for over 6 years and I don't recognise the long negative review posted on here last week. We have found the school to be a safe, and nurturing environment. Any issues quickly actioned and resolved. We've not experienced any problems with bullying. Also, is a story about the school dating back half a century, though interesting, helpful to a parent trying to find the right school for their child? Every child is unique, and different styles of school suit different children. My advice would be go to the school, talk to the teachers, talk to the pupils, and talk to other parents, and you will get a feel of whether this is the right school for your child.

My son is in his sixth year at Shoreham College and my daughter was there for three. They have both flourished in this exceptional school and made to feel comfortable, confident and happy.
In our experience bullying is simply not accepted. There is an anti-bullying council for pupils (and staff) and the children really look after each other. Parents are genuine friends and the Mums in my son's year have a What's App group of 35 mothers. Nothing gets past them, least of all bullying.
Mr Taylor-West has vastly improved the school's academic, music and sport results (as you may know). But none of this would have been possible without the incredible pastoral care that he has put in place.

The school is located in a beautiful old building and is surrounded by generous playing fields. The current headmaster, Mr Taylor-West and his team in my experience deliver a fantastic standard of education to the children. The class sizes are relatively small and as a result a high level of personal care is delivered. The teachers and assistants at all levels do seem to care about the individual pupils and both of my children are very happy here. The fee structure offers good value for money and the results are head and shoulders above local state schools.

I was at this school over 50 years ago when it was a place of horrors. It has got to be better than that by now. When I went it was called caus pronounced Keys.then it changed its name to Shoreham Grammar now College .
Hoped you like the history of the place!

We’ve been with the school quite some years now having chosen specifically for the ethos of getting the best out of the child. Our eldest suffered severe anxiety at his previous school and the head of juniors went out of her way to settle him and set up art therapy to iron out the crux. The teachers were incredibly welcoming and it was a huge weight lifted off our shoulders.
With 3 children in each part of the school now we have not been disappointed. They love their school!
The new Principal has stepped in during a pandemic but nothing seems to stifle her. Very impressed so far and love that she greets each child at the start and end of the day with a smile and a listening ear.
To specify what we believe the best attributes are, it would be that the teachers have always been approachable, the transition around the school is seamless and that reducing anxiety and making it a happy learning environment are top of the agenda.

I have two children at Shoreham college and they are flourishing. The strengths based approach and focus on individuality of each child is clear to see. The teaching staff are brilliant. Very dedicated and throughout the pandemic went out of their way to support the children. The school lunches are healthy and the children are very happy at the end of each day. I think this is a great learning environment.

Since the change of Head I would really consider your options. when we started this school had a heart and a community. Now it's all about the numbers and not the students. Used the have the rep of an expensive state school - previous head made it amazing sadly we have gone back to expensive state school.

When we started many years ago this was my review - My son started a yr ago at the School and all I can say is I am delighted we moved him from his previous school. He loves it at Shoreham College. There is loads of sport which he loves and academically he is doing brilliantly. When he started he was a very shy little boy but a yr on and he has blossomed. The staff are incredibly welcoming and ready to help with any problem that you may have. They have a Forest School as well as fantastic facilities. What has also been amazing is how my son has started eating and trying loads of different foods and this is due to the delicious home cooked foods they offer every day. To top it all off (As another review says) all their after school clubs are free which is a God send.
I would highly recommend this school to anyone. Totally delighted!
