"HATE IT OR LOVE IT"
this building has gained such an iconic status that it even appears on the back of the BRIXTON POUND note, so "Southwyck House" also locally known as the "Barrier Block" has become one of the most well known landmarks in Brixton.

The building is an authentic example of the Brutalist-style and it was designed in 1968-70 by Polish architect Magda Borowiecka, and built between 1972-1981.

With its harsh architecture, the block looks an uninviting place and has gained a fearful reputation, indeed the stark lines and the horseshoe-shaped structure of the building have led some people to mistake it for Brixton prison.

But please if you like Brutalist architecture and don't like this building don't say you hate, because you'are going to accept it and like it after getting to know the real story behind this unbelieveable giant.
You won't get to know the story here but you can discovery with an intimate and full immersive Unexpected Brixton Experience by Unexpected London.
