Beautiful old building - 12th century - set in picturesque village. Comfortable room. Continental breakfast served in the old hall.
The grounds are worth exploring.

Charney Manor is a lovely place situated in the peaceful and beautifully "quintessentially English" village in the county of Oxfordshire, Charney Basset (don't let Google Maps fool you when it tells you it's in Kingston Bagpuize, that is actually a little further away! ;) ) But nevertheless, lovely and welcoming village. The Manor itself, as I hope you read it is run by The Society of Friends, the Quakers, who are a lovely, lovely people and I couldn't fault the staff running it. Nothing was a problem and were very obliging with my various requests. The building, if you also read, is grade listed which of course means there is very little anyone can do to said buildings. Unfortunately, this was evident in the room my Husband and I stayed in. The single pane windows meant that the room didn't stay temporate: it was either hot or cold. No happy medium, but mainly cold. The beds were ok,(Unfortunately it was a Twin Room, would have preferred a Double but alas they had none left at the time of booking) though the pillows took some getting used to I felt. Poor husband didn't sleep well at all on both the nights we stayed there, as he just couldn't regulate his ideal temperature, and I'll admit, on the first night I also struggled, I was either too hot, so stuck a foot out. Still too hot, so stuck a leg out. Short while after that I was too cold again and so the process began all over again. The bathroom was, I won't lie, tiny. Made more so by having the wardrobe in there. I thought it was very strange as well. But my word, WHAT a shower! For such an old building, it had FANTASTIC pressure! But again, temperature was an issue. No matter how high I set the temperature on the dial, it didn't really make much difference, which I thought was a real shame. Sadly as well....the walls were on the thin side. I dreaded whenever the people upstairs woke up for breakfast (fairly standard continental breakfast. Though watching everyone trying to fathom the toaster was an amusing sight)as it sounded like a herd of elephants getting up. To add insult to injury, I was unfortunately woken up thus morning by someone next door snoring his head off! I honestly felt like punching the noisey sod through the adjoining wall! But, as it happens, this was before the "Elephants" in the rooms above woke up, so instead I waited patiently for them to wake up to exact my revenge. Mwahaha!

All in all though, I think if we maybe had a different room, we may have had a better experience, as the rest of the Manor, the grounds, the orchards, the Village it sits in, was all quite idyllic.

Quiet place. Good accomodations. Nice environment if you are into meditation

Peaceful place however most rooms seem to be in outbuildings and floors and walls are thin. I was also next to the laundry and washing machines going all day hardly added to the calm. If booking best to find out where your room might be.

Beautiful house, many beautiful aspects especially the mediaeval Solar room. The garden is very well kept. If you are staying as a retreat guest the meals are excellent, the chef has received training to cater for vegan/vegetarians and does an excellent job. The accomodation rooms have good beds, are kept clean and have ensuite facilities. However there are no frills
