Mr Andrew Sidebottom

I recently had a TMJ joint replacement under Mr Sidebottom. The treatment and professionalism I received from him and his team was second to none. I have no doubt that performing surgery under the unusual circumstances of a pandemic and having to wear a respirator in theatre made this a more chalenging procedure than usual. Mr sidebottom and his wonderful anesthetist and theatre team were exceptional and put me at ease through my stay in hospital. I was able to return to an almost normal diet (no steak yet!) within a few weeks of my operation and although I still have some pain, my mouth opening is now substantially better than before the surgery. Anyone considering surgery with Mr Sidebottom can be confident that they are in good safe hands.

Mr Sidebottom in my opinion is a true gentleman, I could not see him due to Covid-19 he tried to arrange a video call through his normal route. Unfortunately I could not connect to this, that wasn't a problem he found another way. The meeting was booked for 9.30. At 9.29 I had a phone call to confirm I was ready for the video call. Once speaking Mr Sidebottom was calming and reassuring. I was told to keep an eye on my situation and should anything change to contact him again. After a couple of weeks I did have a change, this was noticed on Easter Saturday. Although not wanting to bother Andrew I thought if I let him know things are changing he could attend to it after the holiday. No, I had a reply a couple of hours later that day. It was suggested I visit QMC and have the problem investigated and he would have QMC contact me with an appointment. Tuesday of the following week I had a phone call and an appointment the following day. On arriving at QMC all the staff in the department had a very nice attitude, the gentleman I met was professional in his attitude and care as were the the two nurses who looked after me,calming and reassuring. All I can say if I had first class service from the start. Thank you.

Honestly my personal experience with Mr. Sidebottom was disappointing. Maybe it was because my TMJ issue is not a severe case. I was recommended by my orthodontist and I understood that the orthodontist might just want to check if the brace will make the TMJ issue worse. But the whole experience was just not worth the £210(maybe it’s so bad also because I’m paying for it myself) First of all, I don’t have a car so I had to pay taxis for return journey to the hospital which added on the price and time. Secondly, the appointment time was suppose to be 30 mins and mine is under 15 mins. He asked me some questions about my concerns, (checked my jaw for about 30 secs) which probably is not concerning him so what I go in return was everything he wrote on his website already and also everything I know about TMJ already!! And he says I probably dont need to visit again (oh great!) And the appointment ended. 15+ mins left so I asked him is that all. He said he will use the rest of the time to look at my CT scan (I brought it in person from previous record) so I left. However, after two weeks, I still haven't got a review record from the appointment, and I called few days ago why the record note not been sent to me. The secretary said Mr. Sidebottom still need to look at the CT scan to complete the notes. Really making me wondering is they really worth £210? I guess the only suggestion would be if your TMJ is not bothering you that much, don’t bother doing consultation. :)

I would highly recommend Mr Sidebottom. Not only is he an expert in his field; he is also extremely patient and empathetic and nothing is too much trouble for him. He provides exemplary patient care and I’m so grateful to have had him treat me!

I travelled to see Mr Sidebottom with a severe, debilitating condition which had been received with systemic disbelief and disregard by my local NHS for over a year. After so many frustrating experiences l booked in desperate hope rather than genuine expectation but can honestly say my consultation was absolutely first class, Mr Sidebottom did not dismiss, minimise or patronise but very quickly set to work to confirm a diagnosis, outline a practical treatment plan and offer further follow up for review. All questions were answered with honesty and clarity, and my only regret is l did not meet Mr Sidebottom a year earlier.

I was seen by Dr Sidebottom and he did not pay attention to my issue, it was only after I questioned it that he realised he missed my problem.
