McColl's

Really nice and down to earth staff run this local shop. I've never known a day when it hasn't been open in the last seven years! Always clean and tidy. The shelves are always stocked well. More expensive than a supermarket but it serves its purpose.

Quite often I go to the shop just before 10 and get turned away because they are "closed", you have a closing time for a reason not to close 10 minutes early so the staff can stand outside and smoke.
In side all the staff do is stand around talking and gossiping while customers wait to be served and when served can be quite rude and extremely slow due to constant chats between employees which would be acceptable if it didn't stop them from doing there jobs or at an acceptable pace.
Whilst serving customers they are checking phones staring out the window and often if there's something interesting they'll stop serving to go over to the window to have a nose which has happened to me on more than one occasion.
A am a retail worker and I know this behaviour should not be acceptable.

Went in to the shop to get a few thing not a lot empty shelfs. One person on tills but useing both tills serving 2 customers at a time

It's much better than Minimarket which is a dive but this place also overcharges. Expensive items. People on Stanhope aren't rich!!!! when will the country wake up and stop these corner shops ripping people off and wasting food making it so expensive it's thrown away and the shelves are messy and broken. The pointless hot food thing needs to go and all that space.the store is empty because of McColls was in debt to suppliers! Morrisons could afford to supply the stores as they were hoping McColls would fall into admin to buy it cheaper! it was crafty (rescue) so they get the business cheaper. It was to reduce the debts. McColls old owners then walk off dumped them on Morrisons. Morrisons should use their own supplier and end Safeway Brand it's so expensive. Why is their fish pie fresh £3 when the frozen is £1.90? frozen pizza was cheaper than the fresh too..No wonder Emptier freezers than fridge .People don't like couscous on Stanhope. It's so out of touch yet no bananas the other week..

Open long hours. Has a post office also open til late. Easy free parking. Bus stop outside Cash or card accepted

Funny how I put a review and it gets taken down. Your member of staff Brendan is rude, has absolutely NO customer service skills and was so disinterested in being there. He definitely needs to undergo training on customer service skills!!

Stood in the Shop for 5 minutes boiling hot mask on no one else had one on to be served at the Post Office. Only to be told it was closed at 9.15pm The assistant kept looking at me didn't have the decency just to say . Any other time it's open till 10pm when the main shop is open.

Terrible shop in the middle of the ghetto of Ashford. The employees there are typical stanhopians, terrible attitudes and even worse customer service skills. The woman huffed and puffed when she had to serve me like I was taking time out of her day to do her job. They talk amongst themselves and the locals and are in no rush no serve customers. Terrible place and Terrible workers, I guess it suits the area though, lol.
