I must say that I was surprised that this google facility existed as I had no idea until my friend alerted me this morning.
To introduce myself, I am a partner in the village shop which we have run for two years. As you may appreciate, small shops play an important role in any community; not only do they provide food and drink but, they are also a place for people to catch-up and receive help in times of need; our staff are well known and highly regarded in the locality so, are vital in providing this link with our customers. The member of staff to whom you refer is extremely popular and well loved by us and, within our village.
On the afternoon that you and your friend visited, the staff had finished work and the store was closed; you were made aware of this but, my partner agreed that you could select some items as it would be too late to get to the nearest supermarket, (all major UK supermarkets must close at 4pm on Sunday.) By this time the lights were off and, the chiller blinds were pulled down. We followed you around turning on lights & pulling up blinds to enable you to do this; you would otherwise have been left without groceries; you were in the store for twenty minutes after closing time.
Our staff have strict instructions to shut the shop on time, according to company guidelines and, not to reopen the tills unless authorized to do so by my partner or, myself; this is in-line with our security policy.
You threw our member of staff into disarray as she was attempting to cash up the till. As we were unable to close-up, further people were coming into the shop because your vehicle was preventing us from closing the car park; this meant our staff left the shop half an hour late; this was to our considerable cost; not only financially but, regarding the quality of our life as, Sunday, after three p.m. is the only time we do not work; it is precious to us.
In terms of profit, £70 is negligible and does not cover the cost of electric and staffing so, please do not feel that your contribution to our takings made the extra work worth it. It was simply a gesture of goodwill on our behalf.
I am afraid that your comments regarding racism have done little to cause anxiety to us because, simply put, there is no racism here. We have always welcomed visitors from abroad as we are proud of where we live and love to share it.
Your ignorant behaviour on that Sunday has prompted us to change our opening and closing procedures for the sake of security. The way you spoke to our staff was unforgivable, showing your lack of social grace. We will not allow any member of staff to feel threatened by customers; we have procedures for this eventuality which involve ejection from the premises along with a lifetime ban; this we now extend to you for distressing our staff. The casual way we normally welcome people, allowing them into the shop after closing, has now been reviewed; sadly, we have had to change our policies because, we are well known for helping people and do not expect this in return. To give you an example, we opened on Christmas day, for a family from Kenya who needed groceries; they had just arrived in the area and no shops were open on that day; because of you we are withdrawing that facility as we have now lost trust in people like you.
For your information we are a privately-owned shop which wholesales from Londis; we are not owned by Londis, we are free to choose whatever symbol group we care to; Londis are just one of the thirty suppliers we buy from.
The google review facility shows that you have a habit of leaving damning remarks; far from feeling regret over your promise to never visit the United Kingdom again, I am sure business' around the country will be delighted by the prospect.
