Hardly got through the door before a rude man demanded we put on masks! This guy seriously needs to learn some customer service techniques! One of us is exempt anyway. We walked straight back out. My guess is this is the owner, I hope his turnover can afford ours (& the others on here) loss of custom! Advise you avoid. Would give 0 stars.

I love Hay Deli. I'm constantly buying their olives, hummus and samosas. The staff are all knowledgable foodies who regularly help me to find obscure ingredients and make helpful recipe suggestions. They stock a great range of ethical produce. The Deli has also been a life-line to the community during the pandemic. During the first lockdown the Deli supplied locals with toilet roll when the supermarket shelves were bare. They went the extra mile to get deliveries to customers at home. I also respect the fact that they ask people to wear masks and limit numbers in the shop at any one time - it's a small shop and those rules exist to protect the most vulnerable.

A great asset to Hay with a massive range of stock from fresh fruit and veg to non bio cleaning products. Friendly, knowledgeable staff are always keen to help and they sell the best orange and hazelnut flapjacks!

Incredibly rude gentleman, couldn't have made us feel less welcome. Didn't uncover fridge sections for us, wouldn't get cold cider for us but did tell us he had some. Took issue with us parking out front, despite being in a designated parking space. Absolutely awful, I regret that we went through with our purchase. Genuinely upsetting experience. Wouldn't recommend.

I can’t recommend this place enough. The food and drink sold here is fantastic and the staff are so friendly and helpful. I was overcharged on one of my trips (not that I realised), but the owner found me in the market a few days later and gave me a refund. I was flabbergasted. It’s not often you find that kind of service or honesty.

I have a mask exemption and was stopped at the door by the male owner, who said I was unable to come in due to this. I explained I had an exemption, but he was adamant I was not crossing over his threshold. This is discrimination and self-policing. I was disgusted by not only is very rude and offhand demeanour, but the fact he felt this was OK. The other staff are lovely in the deli, and always helpful and understanding. I will not shop here again as I won't be treated like this.

The male boss has made me feel very unwelcome. I have medical mask exemption and was told I had to be served outside? Is this not disability discrimination Sir! Also I like to see what I am buying as some times there are cheaper options..how many people can stand outside a shop and know exactly what they want from the doorway. All the other staff are amazing..maybe they should cooperatively buy the shop off the idiot and run it more through the community. We help each other out with disabilities in our community..not exclude!

My partner and I visited this deli and as I entered was asked to put a mask on. I explained I had a medical exception and was immediately ejected from the premises. Discrimination in its finest form. The gent (I assume the owner) was extremely rude and even tried to argue further about this with my partner who remained in the shop (with her mask on) about ‘people’ with medical exceptions.
