I was originally a patient of Charles Willis-Owen last year at Poole NHS hospital as a trauma case following an accident which injured my knee. I was told it was a very complex injury requiring surgery but the resident surgeons were not confident in a good outcome if they undertook the repair and I appreciated their honesty. I elected to wait longer for my operation to see Mr. Willis Owen who was highly recommended to have the expertise to carry out a successful repair to enable me to return to normal functionality. I will always be grateful for that advice, and so glad I was lucky enough to have him perform that surgery. Since then I developed a different problem with the same knee which required minor surgery. As I have so much faith in him for his amazing skills as an excellent surgeon together with his depth of caring and genuine interest in his patients, I elected to pay to be treated by him again and would highly recommend him with 100% confidence to anyone looking for truly expert advice and treatment.

I cannot speak highly enough of the service that Mr Willis-Owen and his team provided for me on my knee arthroscopy. The NHS had informed me there was no more that could be done for me after 3 previous operations. Mr Willis-Owen reviewed my history, gave me a very detailed analysis and was very clear around the chances of a successful outcome. During surgery i felt confident and well cared for and since the operation I have had a very rapid recovery and hope to be pain free for the foreseeable future.

In August 2021my left knee became very sore and it was difficult to walk. Couldn't get much help from my medical centre so searched through the internet and found a surgeon who specialised in knee and sports injuries, Mr Charles Willis Owens. I had a national Quarter Final at the begining of October which I explained to Charles, who said he thought he could get me fit to play. Following a consultation with him I was given 2 choices, get patched up (injection in the Knee) and fit to play or go for a Total Knee Replacement. I chose the patch up to enable me to play which was brilliant and got right through to the National Final which the team won.
Charles explained every aspect of the replacement procedure, which, due to the loss of the Meniscus and the state of the joint (bone on bone)was the best way forward. I delayed the procedure until March and am now recovering well and looking forward to playing in the winter. He is an excellent surgeon and cares about his patients. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff in the BPC ward were brilliant as were Charles' team in the operating theatre and during the prep ie Spinal injection etc.
None of this could have happened without Charles and his confident and positive outlook and if it weren't for him I may have had a very long wait and maybe several years of being unable to play bowls.
Thank you so much to you you and everyone involved in treating me, I will be forever grateful, Jill

So delighted to discover that despite severe Grade 4 bone-on-bone arthritis in my right knee that full knee replacement was not the only option. Mr Willis-Owen clearly explained that platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections reduce the pain in 70% people, sometimes miraculously. So although I could barely walk I had one of these 8 weeks ago and the improvement is very significant. I can now move around with no pain and even walk for 90 minutes with no sticks.

I'm opting to have 3 injections in a row, a month apart, for an optimal result.

Mr Willis-Owen has been very kind, understanding and clear in all of our meetings. I would highly recommend him as an excellent surgeon and also someone of high integrity.

I visited Mr Willis-Owen on three occasions for advice and treatment on my right knee. From the original consultation to the treatment itself I have received 5 star treatment. A full explanation of my condition was followed by a choice of treatments. I am delighted with the outcome and Mr Willis-Owens expertise.

I highly recommend Mr Willis-Owen as a person and a surgeon. He is kind, honest and explains everything very clearly. He is very experienced and confident in his abilities which is very comforting. An observer of my operation told me it was carried out with the utmost care. I was looked after very well in the clinic. 8 weeks on I am so happy with my progress. I have followed the exercise programme and can now walk a fair distance without a limp, manage stairs normally, cycle on the flat and swim. Mr Willis-Owen has been very encouraging in my wish to play tennis again. I can’t thank him enough!

3 months ago on the 10th May 2021 I had a TKR (Total knee replacement) on my left leg with Mr Charles Willis-Owen. This was done at the BPC (Bournemouth Private Clinic). It was an experience I would give 10 out of 10 (if I could). I had a spinal block anesthetic with a light sedation which was suggest by Charles. The outcome was an incredibly, fast post operation recovery, I was clear headed, and the anesthetic wore off rapidly (within hours of my operation). The staff were extremely attentive, professional and caring during my stay at the BPC.

From my very first consultation about my knee Mr Charles Willis-Owen was reassuring, professional and honest. My husband and I admired his knowledge and expertise in osteoarthritis of the knee.

On the 10th of August (this month) I played my first round of golf. It was fantastic to be able to have a pain-free round of golf. I am presently hiking 7 kilometres on trails with ascending and descending parts. Charles Willis-Owen warned me that the operation was painful and that if I followed his advise I would have a good recovery. I followed his every instruction to the letter with his team.

Clearly Mr Charles Willis-Owen is a surgeon of immense skill and talent. In my opinion he is the best for Knee surgery. I would like to thank him for doing such a fantastic job on my knee. I would also like to thank the Physiotherapist (Chris Efford, who is part of his team) for encouraging me to stick with the intensely demanding and very painful exercises. I have had a wonderful recovery so far. My flexion and extension of my leg is amazing. I have no limp and my gait is normal. I know my recovery is still continuing and I look forward to playing tennis. The most important advice I could give, is..."lose excess weight, don't stop building muscle strength before the operation ...and continue religiously after the operation".

I have no regrets...this was money well spent as it has given me back my quality of life that was rapidly fading. Thank you Mr Charles Willis-Owen.
