Not only he got the job done but also answered all my questions after the work.
Nice guy.
It took Mr Roy some time to negotiate a date to do the work. He agreed on the 15th February to start. We agreed on the 26th February and he said it would take between 2 - 4 hrs to complete the work.
On the 24th of February 9 days later Mr Roy sent a message and asked me to pay £200 pounds up front. I said why and he responded, he 'needs to buy stuff'? I said that I found that quite unusual that a tradesman would ask me to pay in advance for that type of work. Then he said 'normally we take some advance'. I asked well which reason is it and why is he asking now and not at the very beginning when he provided the quote? He called me and we agreed I would pay when the work was completed.
Late on the same day he called me again and said he was not comfortable??? I asked him why he said people normally pay some money in advance. I said people dont normally pay in advance in general but maybe thats what he agrees but he did not agree that with me. He said he forgot. I advised he should then take responsibility for that and why is he calling me back as we agreed I would transfer the money straight after the job was complete? He said he wasn't thinking straight, I said well he needs to take responsibility for that too. I said what exactly is the problem and he went on to explain that he had problems with somebody else before I assured him he would be paid so he then went on to say the money may not go through straight away when `i try and asked me to do a quick test and transfer a pound. I said I was driving and he insisted, at this point i started to feel uncomfortable that Mr Roy was being personal because of my ethnicity. The Flat is in Tottenham and I could not understand why he was putting me trough all of this. So what if the money wasn't transferred instantly? It was quite a degrading conversation. If Mr Roy had asked for a deposit fine, but to out of the blue ask for half up front? I could have said to him, what if he doesn't turn up after ive paid him half the money? We both have recourse in these situations.
