Lucky enough to go up tower on heritage open day. Bell ringers made us feel most welcome.

Bell ringing going on here at the moment, yet the church is locked up. What's the fear? I keep our church open all day, every day, and regard locked churches as little better than Sunday clubs. The main door was open and I followed some personage in, who then checked that the inner doors were locked against me before vanishing up the tower stairs.

Beautiful medieval large church originally 12th century with lots of reworked stone from Georgian/Victorian era. With many huge and intricate stained glass windows either side of the main aisle.
Equally lovely lichgate at it's main entrance.
Church looks taller than it is because the surrounding cemetery in which it is sat is elevated above the rest of Reigate. Must have been even more magnificent to behold in centuries past!
Really would have liked to have seen the 4 lain to rest stone carved Tudor Knight tombs that are in it somewhere. However, it wasn't really the appropriate time to do so as was attending memorial service of a family member and we were ushered out of the church and over the road for after service tea and cakes. And then the church doors were locked.
Although the vicerette had a microphone couldn't really hear what she was saying which was a bit of a shame. Apart from the beginning of her discoarse on the escape route down the aisle and the toilet's whereabouts much like airline staff 😂. Usually churches have really good acoustics but sadly not this one. The other speakers did admirally well under the circumstances. Very hard to sum up a loved one's life in such a short space of time. Sadly much of which went unheard by many of the congregation that I spoke to afterwards. So I know it wasn't just me!
During the hymns they'd pre recorded choir singers with the music so you couldn't really hear the congregation singing which I found very odd. Why they didn't use an organist for the organ is a bit of a mystery as it would have been much nicer.
