Didn't think this chip shop could get any worse then it was bought out by new management, Mariners. Must have changed the oil or something but was utterly disgusting! Plus £2.10 for a couple of sliced potatoes is beyond appalling!! Will never visit ever again.

Always used here. Fish is amazing and fresh. Puddings steamed and lush..BUT What's happened to the chips/oil ? Dry, soggy, tastless like eating cardboard. Very disappointed with them. Its definitely a 1 minus for the chips.. seems like things have lost there crisipy edge (wrong oil or not hot enough) or the quality potatoes have mean compromised.
Shame because this WAS easy the best chipshop in town and I hope they can get back to what they were producing 12 months ago. Soggy, dry, uneatable food is not acceptable at todays prices. Please get back to you're quality. I'd be happy to pay more and finish my food instead of binning it.

Absolutely love this chipshop and it's called The Mariners now.Lovely fresh cooked food so there is a wait but its well worth it.I use this one when up visiting my friend and the 2 men that are always in there are so friendly too.

We used to go to the chippy every friday, it was delicious, cooked to perfection and light and crispy. The last few visits however have been awful! The chips greasy and soggy. The fish barely cooked or if cooked well over done. Always forgetting sauces and pies are so dry! Really really disappointing! Won't be going again now!

Not called Northern Lights anymore.
Mariners is the new name and the food is much much better now.

Staying at a nearby Premier Inn & not local ( from Portsmouth area ). The reviews previously commented we gave it a try. I had large cod & chips for £6 . The food was really good, the cod had lots of taste and the batter wasn’t over done either. The chips were yummy as well. We visited there on a Monday after being at Alton Towers all day. A recommended chippy with reasonable prices.

A very large order had been placed Saturday 17th July
Had to remind about the sauces not enough done. Got home and 2 items were not done
Chips were awful. Not cooked properly
Batter on fish was liked chewing cardboard
Very disappointed as we call there at least once a week after shopping in Stafford After this we shall not return unfortunately.
